Job Description Summary

The Part-Time Coffeehouse Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and serving high-quality food and beverages in a fast-paced campus coffeehouse environment. This position supports daily operations by maintaining food safety standards, ensuring a clean and welcoming atmosphere, accurately processing transactions, and contributing to an outstanding guest experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Provide outstanding customer service by greeting guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Prepare espresso beverages, coffee, tea, smoothies, and other specialty drinks according to standardized recipes.
  • Prepare and serve food items while maintaining quality and presentation standards.
  • Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and accurately process cash, credit card, and mobile transactions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of dining areas, service counters, equipment, and workstations throughout each shift.
  • Restock food, beverages, paper products, and supplies as needed.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Maintain proper product rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Monitor product quality and report maintenance or equipment concerns to management.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient operations during peak business periods.
  • Promote a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all guests.
  • Additional work-related requests as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and dependability.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math and cash-handling skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn coffee preparation techniques and campus procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous customer service, restaurant, café, or food service experience preferred but not required.
  • Barista experience is preferred but training will be provided.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special campus events as scheduled.

Physical Demands:

  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, walking, standing, lifting, and carrying supplies weighing 50 pounds or less.
