Job Summary
Summary:Responsible for the daily operation of the lab: staffing, workflow, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The position provides daily management and strategic direction for the laboratories. Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and accreditation requirements. This role oversees operations at multiple sites and requires strong management skills, as well as a collaborative approach when working with leaders both locally and within the system. This is an on-site role, rotating sites as operational and situational needs require.

Essential Functions:
Develops and maintains QA systems to ensure a high level of performance and effective remedial actions to address deviations from performance specifications.
-Review performance information, identify opportunities for improvement, and take action to eliminate root causes of performance that do not meet expectations.
-Review event management reports, investigate complaints or problems, and analyze data to identify trends or patterns.
-Ensure a validation protocol and validation summary is created for new or changed processes.
-Assigns, monitors, and supervises work to ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs and applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including health/safety and patient confidentiality.
-Ensures the laboratory is prepared for all regulatory reviews and inspections (e.g., TJC, CAP, FACT).
-Oversees the coordination of clinical trials with principal investigators, study coordinators, quality assurance, and compliance.
-Manages computer systems to access clinical laboratory results, produce worksheets on components processed, and perform other data collection or analysis activities.
-Conducts interviews and recommends candidates for hiring in accordance with departmental policies to ensure adequate staffing for the laboratory.
-Responsible for staff orientation, training, competency assessment, and continuing education, including required department training (safety, infection control, compliance).
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Laboratory Sciences required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred.

Licenses and Credentials:
ASCP Certified Medical Technologist [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] - Generic - HR Only required.
Experience:
Lab experience 5-7 years required and Demonstrated leadership experience in hospital-based CLIA laboratory 3-5 years required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Detailed knowledge of all regulatory requirements, including CAP, Joint Commission, and CLIA.
- Expert knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.
- Strong innovative attributes to remain on top of technology shifts.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Read, write and comprehend English sufficiently to communicate with patients, laboratory and others.
- Strong knowledge of personnel and employment practices.
- Ability to effectively manage staffing levels and workloads.
- Ability to effectively interview and train new employees.
