Job Title: Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing daily physician support in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This role includes participating in performance improvement and enhancement activities, as well as delivering educational support to the nursing staff concerning cardiac, thoracic, and Cardiothoracic surgical services. The NP will work in a clinical environment and may provide wound care, while also rounding at two local hospitals. This position is eligible for a bonus if performance thresholds are met. The NP will operate under the supervision of the Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the daily operations of patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and enhance care activities.
- Provide educational support to nursing staff related to Cardiothoracic surgical services.
- Conduct clinic visits to see post-operative patients and assess their needs.
- Round at local hospitals to ensure continuity of care and monitor patient progress.
- Take comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations on patients.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays to facilitate diagnoses.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
- Respond to calls from home health agencies, hospital staff, and patients as needed.
- Complete necessary, case-specific paperwork for proper documentation and submission.
- Provide call and standby coverage as assigned, maintaining availability for patient needs.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple responsibilities.
- Undertake various other duties as assigned by the supervising physician.

Performance Requirements:

Education and Experience:
- Completion of a degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- BLS certification
- Preferably, at least three years of experience in Cardiothoracic care.
Licensure:
- Must hold a valid Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Florida, obtained following completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Working Conditions:
- Work will be conducted primarily in a clinical setting, with the requirement to visit local hospitals for patient rounds.
- Must be adaptable to fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environments.
- Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use a stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.
- Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
