Position Summary
The Student Event Staff member – Setup & Teardown – serves as an essential member of the gameday and event operations team for the Athletics Department at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. This student position is responsible for supporting the preparation and breakdown of athletic events and special events while ensuring facilities are set up in a safe, organized, and professional manner.
Student Event Staff work under the direction of Student Event Leads and Athletics staff to ensure that home contests and special events are executed efficiently and in accordance with university policies and NCAA Division III standards. This position offers students valuable hands-on experience in event operations, teamwork, time management, and athletic facility management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Event Setup and Teardown Operations
Assist in the setup and breakdown of athletic competitions and special events.
Arrange equipment, seating, signage, barricades, and other event-related materials according to event specifications.
Prepare competition and event spaces to ensure they are clean, organized, and event-ready.
Assist with post-event breakdown, including removal, storage, and organization of equipment and materials.
Ensure all spaces are returned to proper condition following events.
Facility and Operations Support
Maintain cleanliness and organization of athletic venues before, during, and after events.
Assist in monitoring event spaces to ensure a safe and functional environment.
Support equipment movement, setup adjustments, and operational needs as directed by Event Leads or staff.
Identify and report any facility issues, hazards, or maintenance concerns.
Team Support and Coordination
Work under the direction of Student Event Leads and Athletics staff during assigned shifts.
Follow assigned tasks and complete responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
Communicate effectively with team members regarding setup progress and operational needs.
Support fellow student staff to ensure efficient and coordinated event operations.
Policy Compliance and Safety
Adhere to UW–Stevens Point policies, including safety procedures and Code of Conduct.
Follow proper lifting techniques and equipment safety guidelines.
Assist in always maintaining a safe work and event environment.
Report accidents, injuries, or safety concerns to Event Leads or professional staff immediately.
Required Qualifications
Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
Dependable, punctual, and able to follow direction.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, and community members.
Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in event setup, facility operations, manual labor, or related roles.
Interest in sports management, event operations, recreation, or athletics administration.
Familiarity with athletic facilities and event environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform repeated physical tasks including lifting, bending, and carrying.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
