The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise mainframe applications supporting critical business operations. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in COBOL-based development, IBM z/OS environments, and banking or financial services applications. This role involves maintaining legacy systems, developing new functionality, troubleshooting production issues, and contributing to mainframe modernization initiatives through integration with modern technologies and APIs.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, and Java.
- Analyze business and technical requirements to design and implement application enhancements.
- Customize existing mainframe applications to meet client and business requirements.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects and production issues in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support for business-critical mainframe applications.
- Develop and maintain JCL jobs, batch processes, and online transaction programs.
- Work with CICS and other mainframe middleware to support transaction processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems, APIs, and databases.
- Develop and support mainframe API services to enable integration with modern applications.
- Participate in modernization initiatives by integrating legacy systems with new technologies and digital platforms.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, program documentation, and operational procedures.
- Perform unit testing, support system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and production deployments.
- Ensure application performance, stability, security, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of work experience in Quality Assurance roles with functional and automation testing experience
- API Testing – solid hands-on experience with API integration tests
- Experience in Web Services and API testing using tools like Postman, Rest Assured
- Selenium Webdriver, Cucumber.js, Java test automation frameworks – demonstrated competency in developing, auditing and reviewing code
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Maven, Azure DevOps and Jenkins
- Knowledge of testing integrations, end-to-end system processes
- Discovering, reproducing, prioritizing, retesting, and documenting software defects
- Knowledge of managing test strategies, test data, defect management and quality assurance best practices
- Experience developing and maintaining enterprise mainframe applications.
- Strong programming experience with:
- COBOL
- PL/I
- Assembler
- Java
- Experience working with IBM z15 Mainframe and z/OS Operating System.
- Strong knowledge of:
- JCL (Job Control Language)
- CICS
- Broadcom/CA mainframe software products
- Experience developing or supporting Mainframe APIs.
- Experience troubleshooting production issues and performing root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and change management processes.
- Experience with Shaw Systems banking applications, including:
- Lease
- Retail
- Collections
- Experience supporting other mainframe-based banking or financial services applications.
- Experience with legacy application modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with API integration, middleware, and hybrid cloud integration.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.
