JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health, employs principles of a recovery philosophy to provide occupational therapy services to assist clients with their psychosocial rehabilitation and maintain optimal health outcomes. Assesses and screens clients for psychosis and other conditions which may include outreach visits; makes decision on the disposition of referrals including those requiring additional assessment, psychiatric consultant, linkage to a treatment provider and/or referral to an alternative service. Liaises with family physicians, and community agencies to promote early identification and treatment of psychosis. Provides psycho- education, consultation, supportive counselling and family education; provides information to clients and families regarding access to community resources in order to facilitate an effective continuum of services and participates in ongoing development of group therapy component of the program by facilitating adolescent, adult and family groups.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized program. Two (2) years recent related experience in psychiatric and community mental health settings working with adolescents and young adults with psychosis, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).Valid BC driver’s license. Local travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities• Knowledge of developmental issues and theories related to mental illness, particularly early identification and treatment of the primary symptoms of psychotic illness for client population.• Comprehensive knowledge of OT clinical practice related to treatment and care of EPI client population.• Knowledge and understanding of Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) standards and intervention.• Demonstrated experience administering occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.• Knowledge and experience in providing culturally safe and competent care, specifically pertaining to Aboriginal people.• Working knowledge in Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care.• Knowledge and understanding of psychosocial recovery options such as group programs, vocational and educational supports/services, youth and family participation and psycho education of young person and family about the illness.• Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional and liaison with other community agencies is required.• Ability to provide care management/coordination services.• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultural, economic and social backgrounds.• Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools. Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care Knowledge of research methodology and processes.• Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, resource, motivator and facilitator. Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate techniques and facilitate learning. Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health. Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking in approach to teaching.• Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs, materials and a creative learning environment.• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients and their families, either one-on-one and in-groups. Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.• Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
