Job Summary

Job Description

The Fuel Mechanic will perform maintenance and mechanical repair work as assigned in the various shops/areas located at the lignite strip mine facilities.  Areas include and not limited to the rolling stock maintenance shop, assembly-line preventive maintenance shop (ALPM), and Railroad shop.  Duties of a Fuel Mechanic may include:  inspect/troubleshoot; change oil/filters, cutting blades/edges and major components (engines, transmissions, undercarriage, etc) on large motorized equipment; perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on excavators, loading equipment, electric and diesel powered locomotives, railroad cars, and hauling equipment.

Locomotive prior experience preferred to include:

• Inspect, test, maintain, and repair diesel-electric locomotive and related mechanical systems
• Repair, replace, and rebuild locomotive components
• Inspect and maintain locomotive running gear
• Test, repair, and restore air brake systems, including 26L brake equipment

Additional duties may include: perform painting/carpentry/construction work, operate large motorized equipment, mobile cranes, fork lifts and trucks.
