Description

The UX/UI designer is a skilled, experienced member of the Thrivent Asset Management digital experience team who leads on all levels of discovery, design and delivery processes. You’ll provide direction and guidance over how our digital web and mobile experience is designed, both functionally and aesthetically, and play an active role in feedback and iteration throughout the life cycle. This role will simultaneously bring to life a blank canvas while also diving into user experience and designing details of new experiences.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create world-class, user-centered designs based on research, business needs, analytics & user feedback in an agile environment.
  • Demonstrate experience participating in white-boarding sessions, design thinking and story mapping exercises.
  • Design UX and interaction flows of responsive web and mobile experiences.
  • Develop conceptual sketches, visual mockups, navigation flows, storyboards, wireframes, and interactive prototypes to form and communicate design ideas.
  • Work on projects as a solo designer or design leader.
  • Educate others and contribute to the evolution of our design process.
  • Lead the design effort on programs you are working on.
  • Lead user testing to gauge the usability of new and existing products.
  • Develop interactive prototypes (ranging from low- to high-fidelity with interactions and visual design) and iterate based on user insight and stakeholder/user feedback.
  • Demonstrate strong visual design skills and careful attention to detail in delivering on-brand, high-quality, development-ready responsive UI designs for web and mobile platforms, incorporating accessibility best practices.
  • Evolve and develop the design system and library.
  • Partner with developers and other cross-functional teams to assess and optimize new and existing features and page templates, and support accurate implementation of approved designs.
  • Give and receive feedback generously, advocate for quality, learn new tools and processes, grow your craft in new ways, and stay up to date on UX/UI and accessibility best practices.
  • Present your concepts and designs with a point of view, and be able to communicate your vision, ideas, process, and decisions.

Required

  • Portfolio of work samples that demonstrates your design work and original approaches to challenges.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Digital Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience as an interaction designer, user interface designer, or similar role.
  • Expert-level proficiency with UX design-related software and tools (e.g., Figma and Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Strong visual design skills that include typography, animation, iconography, color and composition.
  • Experience in atomic design systems and pattern libraries.
  • Experience designing experiences for web, tablet and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of contemporary design and development methodologies is a plus.
  • Must have excellent user experience and interaction design skills and be able to communicate clearly and concisely through visual specifications.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and accessible design principles.

Preferred

  • Ability to extract complex concepts and quickly turn around rigorous flows, mockups and interactive prototypes reflecting a range of options.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in an agile environment.
  • Demonstrate visual design expertise through mockups and style guides.
  • Additional design skills in related fields, including motion design and prototyping.
  • Strong understanding of typography, color and layout principles.
  • Motion design and video editing.
  • Complex prototyping, including animations and micro-interactions for digital products.
  • Conducting competitive analyses, research, and/or usability testing.
