Software Installation Engineer (m/f/d)
Location: Milan area, Italy
Travel requirement: approximately 50% to 75%, primarily within Italy, with occasional travel across EMEA and Africa
Do you want to help create the future of healthcare?
We are looking for a Software Installation Engineer to join our software installation team in Northern Italy. Ideally based within easy reach of Milan, you will contribute to the installation and upgrade of oncology information systems and associated IT infrastructure at customer sites.
This opportunity may suit someone beginning their career in a high-tech cancer care environment, as well as an experienced professional looking to further develop their software installation and field service expertise.
Following comprehensive product and technical training, you will perform both on-site and remote assignments. You will work independently while having access to an experienced support network whenever technical advice or guidance is required.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Perform remote and on-site software installation, upgrade and configuration activities for customer systems.
- Install, test and hand over oncology information systems and associated IT equipment.
- Conduct database tests, clinical database upgrades and application deployments for radiotherapy departments, including ARIA and Eclipse environments.
- Update software licenses and configure the required applications.
- Install complete IT infrastructure when required, including servers, server racks, power supplies, network switches, consoles, workstations and backup systems.
- Prepare customer sites by supporting Active Directory and network configuration activities, either remotely or on site.
- Work with customers to plan and execute technically complex clinical database upgrades.
- Perform acceptance testing and support customers through the agreed clinical go-live.
- Troubleshoot technical issues independently and involve the appropriate support teams when additional expertise is needed.
- Adapt technical activities and priorities in response to unexpected events while protecting project deadlines and customer commitments.
- Complete the required administrative activities, including time records, work orders, online training, technical reading, documentation updates, technical data maintenance and travel arrangements.
- Travel primarily within Italy and, when required, to other locations across EMEA and Africa.
- Carry out assignments that typically last between one and five days.
Your qualifications and experience
- You hold a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a comparable field, or possess equivalent relevant professional experience.
- You have practical knowledge of Intel-based computer architecture.
- You have strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Windows Server environments.
- You understand relational database management systems and SQL tools, particularly in connection with Microsoft SQL Server.
- You have solid knowledge of IT networking.
- You are comfortable working hands-on with IT hardware, including mounting servers, network switches and backup systems in racks.
- You can install systems from the ground up and replace standard computer components, such as hard drives and video cards.
- You are fluent in Italian and English.
- You are available to travel approximately 50% to 75% of your working time, primarily within Italy and occasionally across EMEA and Africa.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience in software installation, field service or another customer-facing IT role.
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere virtualization environments and their administration and management tools.
- Knowledge of Citrix environment installation, configuration and management.
- Proficiency in Italian and English.
Your attributes and skills
- You work independently, take ownership of your assignments and apply a structured approach to problem-solving.
- You are comfortable managing changing priorities and switching between remote and on-site activities.
- You remain composed and solution-oriented when handling complex technical issues or time-sensitive customer situations.
- You can work effectively towards demanding deadlines, including deadlines linked to clinical go-live activities.
- You communicate clearly with customers and colleagues and provide a high standard of service.
- You collaborate effectively with remote support teams and field-based colleagues.
- You are flexible, hands-on and willing to contribute to both technical and practical installation activities.
- You are motivated to learn and develop your expertise in a highly specialized healthcare technology environment.
Our team
You will join a collaborative software installation team supporting customers in Italy and other international markets. Although many assignments require independent work at customer sites, you will be supported by colleagues who can provide technical guidance and assistance when required.
Your work will help healthcare professionals use oncology information systems and related technologies in their daily clinical activities.
