Our client, a technology-enabled security and surveillance business, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Lead to coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities across a large public-space CCTV network.

The position is based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, with regular field-based work at operational sites. Candidates should therefore be comfortable travelling to sites as required.

The successful candidate will guide technicians, contractors and service providers, prioritise faults and outages, monitor maintenance performance and drive the timely resolution of technical issues.

The role also includes oversight of new camera activations, connectivity, hardware installations, asset control and maintenance documentation. It requires someone with practical CCTV, networking and field-maintenance experience who can coordinate teams while remaining technically involved in fault resolution and quality control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technicians, contractors and external service providers.
  • Prioritise faults, outages and preventative-maintenance activities according to service impact, urgency and operational risk.
  • Guide field teams to ensure work is completed correctly, safely and within agreed timelines.
  • Monitor workloads and ensure maintenance priorities are clearly communicated.
  • Escalate unresolved risks, delays and operational concerns to the Maintenance Manager.

Fault Resolution and Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of CCTV, network, power and field-infrastructure faults.
  • Support technicians with troubleshooting and basic diagnostics.
  • Review recurring faults and identify potential technical or systemic causes.
  • Recommend corrective actions to reduce repeat failures and downtime.
  • Conduct or support quality checks on completed maintenance work.
  • Verify repairs, installations and equipment replacements before close-out.
  • Escalate complex technical issues appropriately.

Monitoring, Reporting and Service Performance

  • Monitor open faults, maintenance queues, service-level progress and overdue work.
  • Drive the timely resolution and closure of maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure fault updates, asset changes and service history are captured accurately.
  • Maintain complete and current maintenance records within operational systems.
  • Prepare regular reports on maintenance progress, risks, recurring issues and blocked items.
  • Identify potential service-level breaches and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain accurate evidence and close-out documentation.

Contractor and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, connectivity providers, municipal teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Confirm site access, work schedules and operational dependencies.
  • Ensure external service providers deliver against the assigned scope and quality requirements.
  • Monitor supplier and contractor turnaround times.
  • Escalate access restrictions, material shortages and service risks promptly.
  • Communicate maintenance progress and delays clearly to relevant stakeholders.

Camera Activations and Installations

  • Coordinate and oversee camera activations and related field activities.
  • Support connectivity provisioning, hardware installation, configuration and testing.
  • Coordinate solar installations where required.
  • Confirm site readiness, access, schedules and dependencies before activation.
  • Verify that connectivity links, cameras, network devices, power equipment and related hardware are operational.
  • Ensure camera views are correctly positioned, optimised and validated against site requirements.
  • Escalate installation and connectivity problems promptly.
  • Confirm that configuration details, activation documentation and sign-off records are completed before close-out.

Inventory, Tools and Asset Control

  • Oversee the availability and allocation of tools, spares, consumables and replacement equipment.
  • Ensure field teams have the equipment required to complete scheduled maintenance work.
  • Track asset movements, equipment replacements and material usage.
  • Maintain accurate records to support stock planning and asset control.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and stock constraints.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment availability and maintenance planning.

Compliance, Safety and Operational Standards

  • Ensure field teams comply with health and safety requirements.
  • Promote safe working practices in public spaces and around electrical equipment.
  • Ensure site procedures and operational standards are followed.
  • Promote responsible handling of CCTV footage, data and system access.
  • Support compliance with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support operational audits.

Minimum Requirements

  • Practical field experience involving cabling, hardware installation or technical troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of IP and analogue CCTV systems.
  • Experience using basic networking and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to log, monitor and report technical faults accurately.
  • Basic understanding of power, connectivity and field infrastructure.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel and Outlook.
