Description
We're looking for a Field Technician to support our school clients in PA!
About Us
Valsoft acquires and runs specialized software and technology businesses across many industries. One of our businesses provides hardware and software that K-12 schools use every day. We're hiring a field technician to support its customers in Pennsylvania.
About the Role
When a school's technology goes down, the school feels it right away. You'll be the person who goes on site to fix it. You'll own field service for schools across Pennsylvania, working with our help desk, warehouse and regional field team. You'll diagnose hardware problems, repair or replace equipment, and keep schools running.
This is a hands-on, independent job for someone who likes troubleshooting, enjoys being out at customer sites and can manage their own schedule.
What You'll Do
- Fix problems on site. Respond to service tickets for school hardware, including self-service kiosks, card printers, check-in stations, PCs, peripherals and battery backups (UPS). Diagnose before you replace anything. The fix is often a battery, a setting or a software repair, not new equipment.
- Prioritize by impact. Handle the problems that stop a school's daily operations first.
- Plan your week. Review your ticket queue, group visits by region, confirm appointments with school contacts and arrange parts with the warehouse ahead of time. Adjust quickly when urgent work comes in.
- Install and maintain. Install new equipment, run preventive maintenance visits, test everything before you leave and get customer sign-off.
- Check warranties. Replace covered equipment. Send out-of-warranty or end-of-life equipment to sales for a quote. - Document everything. Record what you found, what you did and what follow-up is needed. Share new fixes with the help desk so schools can solve the same problem remotely next time.
- Communicate. Keep school contacts, the help desk and your manager updated. Be reachable during working hours and respond quickly to urgent requests.
- Support the team. Help cover other regions during peak season or when colleagues are away, and help train new or seasonal technicians.
Tools You'll Use
- Our device management portal and dispatch system
- Jira - Microsoft Teams and Outlook
- TeamViewer, for remote diagnostics
- A mobile field-service app
- Nexonia, for expenses and mileage
Working conditions
- Regular travel across Pennsylvania, with occasional trips to nearby states. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Peak season runs August through mid-October, when hours and travel go up.
- You'll lift and carry equipment up to about 50 lbs.
- Initial training includes shadowing a senior technician.
