Job Title:

Health and Safety Officer

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, promote a strong safety culture, and implement effective health, safety, and environmental practices across the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying risks, maintaining compliance, coordinating safety initiatives, and supporting the wellbeing of employees and contractors

Responsibilities & Skills: 

  • Conduct incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency evacuation plans.
  • Manage statutory legal appointments and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct baseline and site-specific risk assessments.
  • Coordinate and facilitate health and safety meetings.
  • Perform legal compliance audits and compile reports.
  • Manage incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver health and safety training programmes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks to promote safety awareness.
  • Procure, issue, and manage personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Manage legal permits and ensure permit-to-work compliance.
  • Coordinate employee medical examinations and maintain medical records.
  • Oversee contractor health and safety compliance and management.
  • Coordinate ASIB inspections, certifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Arrange and monitor occupational hygiene surveys.
  • Manage the inspection, servicing, and maintenance of fire equipment.
  • Appoint, train, and manage SHE Representatives
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Registration with a recognised health and safety professional body (advantageous).
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures.
  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of contractor management and permit-to-work systems.
  • Experience coordinating health and safety training and toolbox talks.
  • Knowledge of PPE management and occupational hygiene practices.
  • Familiarity with fire safety systems and ASIB inspection requirements.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
