The Clinical Operations & Strategy Manager serves as a strategic advisor responsible for leading complex operational transformation initiatives across the Department of Ophthalmology. Working in partnership with executive leadership, physicians, clinical leaders, and administrative teams, this position identifies opportunities to improve patient access, operational efficiency, financial performance, workforce utilization, clinical quality, and patient experience. The Manager functions as an internal executive consultant, independently leading enterprise-level initiatives from assessment through implementation while providing data-driven recommendations that support the department's strategic priorities. This role requires extensive experience navigating complex healthcare organizations, facilitating organizational change, influencing leaders without direct authority, and driving measurable operational outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities

Executive Consulting

  • Serve as an executive consultant to department leadership on strategic operational initiatives
  • Advise physician and administrative leaders regarding operational performance, organizational effectiveness, and strategic growth opportunities
  • Lead operational assessments and develop comprehensive recommendations supported by quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Facilitate executive decision-making through business cases, financial analyses, benchmarking, and performance reporting

Operational Strategy

  • Design and implement operational strategies that improve access, throughput, capacity, patient experience, and financial performance
  • Evaluate clinical workflows and redesign processes to improve efficiency while maintaining exceptional quality and safety
  • Lead operational and financial optimization initiatives across ambulatory clinics, surgical services, diagnostic imaging, retail optical, ambulatory procedural services, and other revenue-generating clinical enterprises
  • Develop scalable operational models supporting future organizational growth

Financial Performance

  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue capture, reduce operational waste, and optimize resource utilization
  • Develop financial analyses supporting operational recommendations
  • Partner with Finance to evaluate productivity, staffing models, labor utilization, capital investments, and return on investment
  • Support strategic business planning and long-range financial initiatives

Workforce Optimization

  • Evaluate staffing models and workforce deployment strategies
  • Develop recommendations regarding workforce utilization, productivity standards, and organizational structure
  • Facilitate leadership workshops supporting change management and operational excellence
  • Assist leaders with implementation of sustainable operational improvements

Performance Improvement

  • Lead multidisciplinary improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, change management, human-centered design, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Establish performance metrics, dashboards, and executive scorecards
  • Monitor project outcomes and ensure sustained operational improvements

Data Analytics

  • Translate operational and financial data into executive-level recommendations
  • Develop meaningful performance dashboards for physician and administrative leadership
  • Perform benchmarking against internal and external best practices
  • Present findings to executive leadership committees

Strategic Growth

  • Support development of new clinical programs, service expansions, ambulatory locations, and strategic partnerships
  • Conduct operational due diligence for growth initiatives
  • Develop implementation roadmaps supporting organizational priorities

Organizational Leadership

  • Influence multidisciplinary teams without direct reporting relationships
  • Build collaborative relationships across clinical, operational, finance, information technology, revenue cycle, facilities, and executive leadership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for complex organizational initiatives
  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Leadership, or a related discipline
  • Equivalent combinations of progressive executive leadership experience and demonstrated expertise in healthcare operations may be substituted for formal degree requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership, consulting, operational strategy, or performance improvement experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale operational transformation initiatives
  • Experience partnering directly with physicians, executive leaders, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience developing operational strategy, workforce optimization initiatives, financial improvement plans, and organizational redesign
  • Experience utilizing healthcare analytics to drive executive decision-making
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change in complex healthcare environments
