About the Position:
This position will be responsible for preparation of sample extracts for analysis, loading and running sequences on GC-FID and/or GC-MS, calculating and reporting data.
Specific Responsibilities
- Sample preparation for all analysis done in the organic lab including semi-volatile organics;
- Operation and troubleshoot of major instruments: GC/FID, Combi Pal HS and GC/MS;
- Analysis of Alcohols, Glycols in water and soil, Histogram and CCME TPH analysis;
- Data entry into LIMS;
- Prepare calibration and quality control standards, duplicate and spike samples within the batches;
- Method review and troubleshooting;
- Method development for new procedures;
- Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TAT’s) and hold times;
- Related computer use. Will be trained to query a work list of samples, creating work groups, data entry and data transfers;
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow safety requirements in Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns or incidents to Safety Rep;
- Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements, deviations must be approved by Supervisor or Manager;
- Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
- May assist with training LA and AN0;
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Organized, highly motivated, detailed oriented;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision;
- Ability to multitask;
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment ;
- Strong English communication skills both written and verbal;
- Proficient computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of diploma or degree in chemistry or related field;
- Lab experience with GC/MS/FID would be an asset, full training will be provided.
Physical Demands
- Able to lift 30 lbs and carry for short distances;
- Able to climb stairs;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
Our Benefits Include:
An estimated hourly pay of $25.09 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
