Senior Lecturer (Clinical Education) - Academic Support

• Provide academic support, clinical teaching and pastoral care to rural medical students enrolled in the University of Sydney Doctor of Medicine Program delivered at the School of Rural Health in Orange, NSW

• Part-time (0.2 FTE) continuing, funding contingent

• Base salary starting from $162,347 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation + clinical loading for eligible candidates

About the opportunity 

The School of Rural Health (SRH) has been delivering long term rural placements for The University of Sydney year 3 and 4 medical students in Orange and Dubbo for over 20 years. In 2022, The University of Sydney commenced delivery of its four-year graduate entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program in two streams; a Metropolitan stream based on the University’s Camperdown campus in Sydney, and a Dubbo stream based at the School of Rural Health in Dubbo.

We have a position available for a Senior Lecturer (Education-Focused, Clinical Education) – Academic Support who will undertake a range of duties related to the implementation of the curriculum as well as teaching and learning activities for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program delivered to extended rural placement students in Orange, NSW. In addition to teaching, this position will provide academic support and mentoring, and contribute to the pastoral support of these medical students.

Based in Orange, limited travel between rural and metropolitan sites is a requirement of this position and therefore a driver’s license is required. Some out-of-hours work is also required in this role.

Your key responsibilities:

• design, deliver and evaluate high-quality clinical education for Doctor of Medicine students in Orange

• teach, coach, mentor and provide academic and pastoral support to students in a rural clinical setting

• develop contemporary, practice-informed teaching resources with a focus on rural health

• contribute to curriculum implementation, scholarship, research, administration and governance across the School and Faculty

• support student and staff orientation, induction, wellbeing and compliance requirements for the Sydney Medical Program and relevant rural health training programs.

About you:

• Medical qualification such as MB, MD, MBBS or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.

• PhD or other relevant higher academic or professional qualification in a discipline relevant to the role.

• Fellowship of a relevant Australasian medical specialist college, or equivalent.

• Current AHPRA registration.

• Current or recent clinical experience, within the Australian healthcare system.

• Experience in clinical teaching, learning and student support within a tertiary medical education environment, ideally in rural health.

• Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring and coordinating successful team activities.

• Recognised professional leadership in a clinical specialty, supported by strong networks and strategic alliances.

• Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, rural health.

• Current driver’s licence.
