Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. This position maintains and services all HVAC systems for Murdoch Center in addition to a satellite facility used for cold storage, the Oxford and Wright Path group homes, and the old ADATC facility consisting of seven buildings. This position repairs and provides preventive maintenance for all Murdoch Center’s heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration. New equipment is installed as required. On occasion, this position will assist with maintenance repairs and other types of work for other State agencies.


ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Recruitment Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • candidates must have skill in using tools

  • working knowledge of the construction and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors

  • ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform repair procedures

  • valid driver’s license are required.

  • knowledge of the design and operation of pneumatic control systems.

  • Experience using and troubleshooting commercial DDC HVAC control systems.

  • Skilled experience in commercial hydronic air handling equipment.

Work Schedule: 7:00am - 4:00pm

Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area.  Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).  Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities. Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
