Substation Quality Inspector II

Location:744 Highway 87, Calera, AL

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Alabama Power


Position Overview

The Substation Quality Inspector II is responsible for supporting quality assurance activities on substation construction projects. This role focuses on field verification, civil construction inspection, surveying support, and ensuring compliance with project plans, grading specifications, and soil requirements.

The ideal candidate has strong surveying experience, civil construction knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a field office environment.


Key Responsibilities

Field Inspection & Quality Control

  • Review and interpret grading plans and soil reports

  • Verify construction activities align with project drawings and specifications

  • Support quality assurance inspections for civil and substation construction work

  • Maintain accurate field documentation and reporting

Surveying & Site Verification

  • Perform surveying tasks using:

    • Robotic instruments

    • GPS systems

    • Data collector instruments

  • Verify elevations, layouts, and site grading

  • Assist in resolving field discrepancies

Documentation & Reporting

  • Communicate findings clearly both verbally and in writing

  • Prepare inspection reports and documentation

  • Utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) for reporting and communication

  • Maintain organized records and field logs

Collaboration & Site Coordination

  • Work closely with project managers, construction crews, and engineers

  • Coordinate activities within the field office environment

  • Provide feedback on constructability and quality concerns


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of surveying experience

  • Experience using robotic instruments, GPS, and data collectors

  • Experience in civil construction projects

  • Ability to read and interpret grading plans and soil reports

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency using computers and/or iPads

  • Ability to work onsite in a field office environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in substation construction

  • Experience in quality inspection roles within utility or heavy industrial projects
