JOB SUMMARY: Utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in providing comprehensive and competent patient care. Provide effective interaction with patients, family members and staff. Coordinates interdepartmental patient care activities while maintaining nursing standards.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize the nursing process for the performance of patient care, to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes.
  • Conduct assessment of patient conditions, collection of history, and review of systems in a thorough and accurate manner.
  • Assist primary care provider as needed to complete orders, prepare patient for exam, assist with treatment of minor surgical procedures, and complete diagnostic testing.
  • Obtain patient’s vital signs, medications, allergies, and medical history.
  • Perform patient and family education as needed during clinic visits, and evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment and/or instruction.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability in the delivery of patient care in a competent, professional, and compassionate manner.
  • Schedule appointments, notify patient of appointment information, and obtain necessary records for appointments.
  • Prepare and administer immunizations and injections, including ordered medications.
  • Collect, prepare, and perform office laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare and clean instruments, maintain equipment, keeps patient exam rooms clean and orderly.
  • Perform and maintain documentation and manage electronic health record.
  • Complete all referrals, consultations, etc. in a timely manner, including documenting appointment details in patient’s medical record.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and assess urgent/emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.
  • Apply professional nursing skills in the provision of preventive health maintenance and treatment of ill and injured patients, utilizing the nursing process.
  • Communicate effectively, including facilitating interdisciplinary communication.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient conditions, patient satisfaction needs, and recommendations.
  • Identify and recognize patient conditions, establish priorities, and take appropriate action.
  • Become an advocate for the patient needs and communicates these needs effectively with primary care provider and other health team members.
  • Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals, lab testing, and prior authorizations.
  • Promote and ensure patient safety in performance of all responsibilities.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to primary care provider orders and nursing policy.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics, including lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
  • Use National Patient Safety Goals to ensure patient safety.
  • Implement infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing, and gloves.
  • Follow proper procedures for wasting narcotics, disposal of sharps and hazardous materials by following the Hospital Infection Control Plan.
  • Follow proper protocols for patient follow-up, referrals, and recall needs.
  • Complete monthly safety checklist, lab quality reporting, and other reports as requested to ensure quality assurance within the clinics.
  • Call patients with reports in a timely manner and explain the results to patients, giving accurate and complete information to patients and families.
  • Schedule appointments and send appropriate documentation as needed for consult appointments.
  • Triage incoming calls from patients and provides report to the primary care provider.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited school/college of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Mandatory child/adult abuse reporter
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with pediatric patients, required for Pediatric Clinic
