An Interior Manager at JLL oversees interior design and fit-out projects for client properties or JLL-managed spaces. Their responsibilities typically encompass design management, project execution, and client relationship functions.

Design Management and Oversight

The Interior Manager leads interior design projects from conceptual development through final execution. They develop design concepts that align with client brand standards, functional requirements, and budget parameters. This includes space planning, material and finish selections, furniture specifications, and aesthetic coordination. They ensure designs meet both client expectations and technical requirements including building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability goals.

Project Coordination and Execution

They manage the end-to-end delivery of interior projects, coordinating architects, designers, contractors, and specialty vendors. This involves developing project schedules, tracking milestones, monitoring budgets, and ensuring quality control throughout construction and installation phases. The Interior Manager conducts site visits, reviews contractor submittals, addresses field issues, and manages punch list completion to ensure projects meet design intent and quality standards.

Client and Stakeholder Management

Interior Managers serve as the primary liaison between clients, design teams, and construction personnel. They facilitate design presentations, gather stakeholder feedback, manage expectations, and communicate project status regularly. Strong relationship management ensures client satisfaction and can lead to repeat business and expanded scopes of work.

Budget and Cost Management

They develop and manage project budgets, prepare cost estimates, review contractor bids, and track expenditures against approved budgets. The Interior Manager identifies cost-saving opportunities without compromising design quality or functionality, and manages change orders when scope adjustments are necessary.

Standards Development and Compliance

Interior Managers often establish and maintain interior design standards, finish palettes, and furniture standards for client portfolios. They ensure consistency across multiple locations while allowing flexibility for local needs. They also ensure compliance with corporate policies, building regulations, ADA requirements, and sustainability certifications when applicable.

Vendor and Procurement Management

They manage relationships with furniture dealers, material suppliers, and specialty vendors. This includes negotiating pricing, reviewing proposals, coordinating deliveries, and ensuring timely procurement of materials and furnishings to support project schedules.
