GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- A pharmacy assistant provides administrative and operational support to pharmacists, to ensure the pharmacy functions efficiently. This includes handling tasks like managing inventory, processing prescriptions, measuring and packaging medications, extemporaneous preparations, dispensing medications, providing customer service and others.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- To ensure smooth running of the Pharmacy Department.
- To ensure all policies and procedures of Hospital Accreditation Standards, act, laws, rules and regulation (governing the pharmacy services) are adhered to and proper records is maintained.
- To ensure all policies and regulations of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, are adhered to:
- Responsible and accountable to carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in OSH Act and Regulations 1994.
- To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons.
- To cooperate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty.
- To wear or use any protective equipment or clothing.
- To comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health.
- To give prompt, efficient, ethical and professional services to internal/ external customers.
- To provide professional advice to the prescribers, staff nurses and others (with regards to drugs such as: chemical name, indication, dosage, side effects, special precaution, contraindication, drug interaction, storage etc).
- To screen incoming prescription/ drug chart.
- To prepare label according to the prescription/ drug chart.
- To prepare the drugs according to the prescription/ drug chart.
- To key in the charges of the drugs into the system.
- To counter check the prepared drugs.
- To dispense/supply the drugs to the patient/ wards together with necessary instruction.
- To compound lotion/ mixture and prepare dilution for stock and extemporaneous use.
- To repack bulk drugs into suitable units for dispensing.
- To maintain good inventory control at all time (such as stock availability, par level, short expiry).
- To ensure security/ cleanliness of the department.
- To prepare statistical report as required, in a timely manner.
- To assist in any job related assignment.
- To participate actively in any new service/ programmes introduced by the department/ hospital.
- To perform any duties as assigned by the Pharmacist, Chief Pharmacist, KPJ Corporate Pharmacist, KPJ Head of Pharmacy & Allied Health, or any officers designated by the company.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Diploma in Pharmacy (UiTM or other Institution approved by LAN).
Knowledge and Experiences:
- Minimum 2-3 years in retail/hospital environment.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
