Job Description:
Position Description:
Experienced shop/field role that requires knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience. May require a technical or vocational education. Works under immediate supervision and problems are typically routine in nature, but may at times require deviation from standard procedures or interpretation. Perform tasks required to fabricate, weld, and assemble structural metal products, such as parts, frameworks or sub-assemblies for machinery according to job order or blueprints.
Key Responsibilities/Complexities:
- Interpret moderately complex drawings, route sheets, specifications and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied
- Set up and operate metal arc, shielded arc, or oxyacetylene equipment for welding, brazing, and flame cutting operations; set current, amperage, gas pressures and controls; select rod, wire, tips, electrodes for specific job at hand; fit, position, and secure with holding devices
- Perform moderately complex saw operations and painting as required
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers
- Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers
- Detect defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to supervisor describing in accurate detail to ensure proper corrective actions
- Complete necessary documentation to ensure quality and production requirements
- Actively participate in team meetings to communicate and help resolve any cost, quality, or production issues; understand and apply engineering change request process
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
- Maintain equipment and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
- Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications:
- Ability to understand and interpret basic blueprints, specifications, and machined part prints
- Beginning level grinding knowledge
- Beginning level experience in MIG, TIG, and flex core welding
- Must be able to operate tools properly, safely, efficiently and effectively
- Highly team oriented
- Communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Typically has 2-4 years of experience in industrial welding or fabrication
