The ALF Competitive Intelligence (CI) Program is a strategic initiative designed to provide actionable market, customer, and competitive intelligence across Elsevier's Academic Leaders & Funders (ALF) portfolio. Following a successful pilot phase for Pure, the program is now expanding to additional solutions including SciVal, Interfolio, and Scopus.
We are seeking a dedicated Market Research & Competitive Intelligence Analyst to support the growth and operationalization of this program. The successful candidate will gather, analyze, and synthesize information from multiple sources, including win/loss data, customer interviews, market research, sales feedback, competitive intelligence, Salesforce, and Gong. They will work closely with Solution Marketing, Sales, Product, and other stakeholders to identify market trends, customer needs, competitive threats, and growth opportunities.
The individual will play a key role in producing competitive intelligence briefs, battlecards, win/loss analyses, and strategic recommendations that help improve positioning, messaging, go-to-market strategies, and business decision-making.
Accountabilities:
- Conduct competitive and market research across our academic solutions landscape.
- Monitor competitor activities, product launches, acquisitions, partnerships, and market signals.
- Review and analyze win/loss data from Salesforce and other internal sources.
- Conduct customer win/loss interviews and summarize findings.
- Gather qualitative feedback from sales, customer success, marketing, and product teams.
- Support development of competitive intelligence briefs and executive summaries.
- Create and maintain competitive battlecards and competitor profiles.
- Track emerging market trends, customer challenges, and industry developments.
- Analyze data from Gong, Salesforce, customer feedback, and market research sources.
- Prepare actionable recommendations and insights for Solution Marketing and business leaders.
- Maintain structured repositories of competitive intelligence and market research assets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree holder.
- Proven specialty in both qualitative and quantitative research
- Strong experience in market research, competitive intelligence, business analysis, or strategic insights.
- Experience supporting B2B SaaS, technology, software, or professional services organizations.
- Ability to gather, synthesize, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
- Experience conducting customer interviews, surveys, or stakeholder interviews.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience creating reports, briefings, presentations, and executive summaries.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable collaborating with global cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
- Experience working with conversation intelligence or customer insight platforms such as Gong (or ability to learn quickly).
- Ability to quickly learn and apply enterprise AI tools and technologies to support technical workflows and business objectives.
Nice-to-have:
- Master's degree in Marketing, Market Research, Business Administration, Strategic Management, or related field.
- Experience in higher education, research management, scholarly communications, research intelligence, or academic technology sectors.
- Experience building competitive intelligence programs or frameworks.
- Familiarity with Research Information Management (RIM), CRIS, research analytics, or library technology solutions.
- Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.).
- Experience supporting product marketing or solution marketing teams.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted research, intelligence gathering, and market analysis tools.
- Experience conducting win/loss programs at scale.
- Exposure to strategic planning or go-to-market initiatives.
