JOB SUMMARY
The Public Space Attendant / Guest Runner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of the hotel’s public areas, guest corridors, elevators, employee spaces, and service areas while also providing prompt and professional delivery services to hotel guests.
This is an evening shift position, working approximately 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The position will play an important role in maintaining the hotel’s public areas throughout the evening while responding to guest requests and delivering requested items and amenities to guest rooms.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, guest-focused, and able to balance cleaning responsibilities with guest requests in a fast-paced hotel environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Space Attendant Responsibilities
- Ensure all guest corridors, elevators, landings, stairwells, and service areas are clean, organized, and presentable throughout the evening.
- Clean and maintain public areas, employee areas, and other assigned spaces throughout the hotel.
- Clean public and employee restrooms several times throughout the shift, ensuring they remain stocked and presentable.
- Clean interior and exterior windows in public and employee areas as assigned.
- Clean and maintain floor surfaces using designated chemicals, cleaning supplies, and equipment.
- Dust and clean surfaces in assigned areas.
- Empty trash containers and ash urns in public areas and dispose of waste in the appropriate containers.
- Inspect furniture and fixtures for tears, rips, stains, or other damage and report concerns promptly.
- Stock and maintain guest floor closets and other designated supply areas.
- Place caution signs and appropriately restrict access to areas when necessary.
- Identify and report preventative maintenance needs, maintenance issues, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries to the Manager, Supervisor, or MOD immediately.
Guest Runner Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to guest requests and deliver requested items, amenities, supplies, and other approved items to guest rooms.
- Retrieve items from guest rooms or other hotel areas as requested.
- Ensure guest requests are delivered accurately and in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
- Verify that requested items are complete and in good condition prior to delivery.
- Greet guests in hallways, elevators, and other hotel areas and offer assistance when appropriate.
- Anticipate and address guests’ service needs whenever possible.
- Assist guests with disabilities and provide appropriate assistance within the scope of the position.
- Communicate guest requests or concerns to the appropriate department or Manager promptly.
- Maintain knowledge of hotel facilities, amenities, services, and general guest information to assist guests effectively.
- Handle guest items and hotel property with care and maintain confidentiality regarding guest information.
- Maintain a clean and organized Guest Runner cart or assigned equipment.
- Follow all hotel procedures regarding guest room access and delivery of items to guest rooms.
- Report unusual activity, guest concerns, maintenance issues, or safety/security concerns to the Manager, Supervisor, or MOD immediately.

- Previous hotel, housekeeping, public area, guest services, bell, runner, or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and quality.
- Excellent guest service and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and complete cleaning assignments while responding to guest requests.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform job duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and established hotel standards.
- Must be dependable and able to respond to guest requests in a timely manner.
- Must be available to work the evening shift, approximately 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, including weekends and holidays as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 55 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to push and pull work-related machinery, carts, and equipment over sloping, uneven, or hard-to-navigate surfaces.
- Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Ability to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying sizes and weights, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to visually inspect tools, equipment, machinery, furniture, and work areas to identify defects or maintenance concerns.
- Ability to move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces and safely use a ladder when required.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, and move for extended periods throughout an entire work shift.
- Ability to safely perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all company, hotel, safety, and security policies and procedures.
- Complete all required safety training and certifications.
- Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals and flammable materials in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and hotel information.
- Maintain proper uniform and professional appearance.
- Perform other reasonable job duties as assigned by the Manager, Supervisor, or MOD.
