The Long Products Division of Steel Dynamics, Inc., Steel of West Virginia, has an immediate opening for a Department Safety Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Visibility and availability - Leading to more face-to-face interactions with hourly employees - Demonstrating SDI's number 1 Core Value. Resource for Department
  • Managers and Supervisors to solve day-to-day safety issues, proactively looking for exposures, and ability to handle other safety concerns.
  • Availability to attend plant meetings to continually support Department Managers and Supervisors in all "Take Control of Safety" initiatives with a consistent message to all employees. Liaison between other departments to maintain consistency in our approach to “Take Control of Safety”.
  • Availability to attend seminars and conventions to bring back new safety technology to the division.
  • Manage departmental safety clerical checks (crane reports, mobile equipment certifications, scheduling trainings, etc.). and filing per OSHA requirements.
  • Respond to any emergencies and track the incident reports, safety alerts and start the draft in Intelex.
  • Track and report on employee training, JSAs/PSIFs and other safety requirements. Train contractors and new hires on safety programs and culture.
  • Identifying true safety concerns and tracking progress towards safer conditions, working with electrical and engineering to accomplish these improvements and reporting back to the Company.
  • Developing and training a department specific orientation for new hires.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College degree or safety experience in oriented field.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing environment preferred
  • Safety awareness and understanding
  • Observant, attention to details and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
