Job Summary:
The Production Facility Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems supporting production facilities. The role provides technical expertise in electrical equipment reliability, maintenance optimization, troubleshooting, asset integrity, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and engineering support for electrical systems across production facilities.
- Ensure the safe and reliable operation of HV, MV, and LV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, UPS systems, battery chargers, and emergency power generation systems.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and plant availability.
- Lead electrical troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for critical equipment failures and recurring issues.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for reliability improvement, risk reduction, and maintenance optimization.
- Support facility start-up, commissioning, shutdown, turnaround, and expansion projects.
- Review, update, and maintain electrical engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company electrical safety standards, electrical safe work practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance for electrical isolations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Permit to Work (PTW) activities.
- Define and review maintenance procedures, inspection plans, and operating instructions for electrical equipment.
- Evaluate equipment condition through inspections, testing programs, and condition monitoring activities.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and facility modifications by providing engineering design reviews and technical recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve facility performance, energy efficiency, operational excellence, and asset utilization.
- Manage electrical contractors and vendors to ensure work is executed safely and in accordance with company standards.
- Ensure accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and reliability data are maintained within the CMMS.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to maintenance personnel and junior engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, productivity, and cost optimization.
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of industrial power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Knowledge of HV, MV, and LV electrical equipment and protection systems.
- Experience with motors, VFDs, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and control systems.
- Understanding of power system studies, protection coordination, and electrical fault analysis.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and maintenance best practices.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with electrical testing, commissioning, and condition monitoring techniques.
- Knowledge of CMMS and maintenance management processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 3-8 years of experience in industrial facilities, manufacturing, energy, oil and gas, or production environments.
- Experience supporting critical electrical infrastructure in an operational environment.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in reliability improvement, maintenance engineering, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- ESR certified and capable of obtaining electrical authorization in accordance with company requirements.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
