Job Summary
As an integral part of the team, and contact person for the Care Center, the Business Associate is responsible for the business aspects of a patient's stay, the tlow of information throughout the unit and between members of the patient care team, as well as a patient focused care within the Care Center. These activities include; admitting, maintaining census information, maintenance of the medical record from registration to admission or discharge, coordination of patient movement, scheduling procedures, performing unit reception duties, and other duties as needed.
Essential Functions

* Required forms are prepared; i.e., consents for treatment, Medicare assignment letter. - Maintains census and charge information.

* Assign beds to incoming patients.
* Update the Admissions, Discharge, transfer (ADT) System. Compile information and data entry for charge capture. - Schedules appropriate tests, medical procedures, and follow-up appointments.

* Maintains required records of admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths.
* Maintains record of patient activities and movement. Prepares various records and charts as required by normal patient unit clerical activities.
* Schedules appointments and arranges transportation for patients leaving the unit for diagnostic testing and therapy; remains informed of patient activity and movement.
* Notifies Admitting, Nutrition, and other departments as required of pending admissions, discharges, transfers and changes in patient status and needs.
* Makes arrangements related to patient discharge, i.e., clinic appointments and referrals, valuables retrieval and transportation. - Performs secretarial duties on the patient care unit. Interact with patients and visitors. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process (IP)
* Prepares and maintains all patient charts from admission through discharge of patients. Admission, transfer, discharge)
* Assures all patient charts are completes and properly identified and that all pages in the chart are stamped with patient's address plate.
* Assures all charts are maintained in the proper page order; removes excess a es as necessary and stores in the prescribed manner and location.
* Performs other secretarial duties as directed by the Manager or change designee.
* Unit log, statistics, paperwork, reports associated with unit activity.
* Ensures that all demographic and insurance information obtained is verified and accurately entered into the appropriate hospital systems at the point the information becomes available.
* Achieves the operation excellence policy of complete and accurate work products.
* Files all records designated for chart storage as they arrive or are produced on the unit; i.e., lab results, x-ray re orts. - Interacts with patients and visitors.

* Answers telephones, call lights and patient intercom in an appropriate manner and timely.
* Locates personnel and relays messages as needed in a timely fashion.
* Greets visitors in a cordial and respectful manner.

* Provides non-medical information in regard to patients, where appropriate. Refers professional inquiries and messages to the ANM, patient care coordinator, Nurse in charge or members of the nursing staff.

* Arrange/Assists with rental of television and telephone services.
* Contacts Security to secure valuables.
* Assists with patient mail and deliveries. - Receive and maintain business office and inventory for the care center.

* Maintains inventory of office supplies and equipment. Orders office and patient care supplies utilizing the BIS/SAP system - Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan developed by the professional staff, patient and family.

* Completes assignments within established time frames.
* Assures that all schedules are available (i.e., Tele-tracking, transport tracking, OR schedule, On-call schedules) and makes notations on schedules as appropriate.
* Gives report to the oncoming Business Associates.
* Participates in orientation of new Business Associates.
* Escalates problems to appropriate personnel for resolution as necessary.
* Verifies insurance eligibility with third party payor, employers, and other sources for hospital and physicians.
* To ensure patient eligibility for benefits pertaining to visit. - Participates actively as a member of the health care team.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the care center.
- 6-9 months of health care-related experience in order to become familiar with health care policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of keyboarding and basic computer skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Successful completion of Business Associate training program and competency based orientation.
