Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

Bring your positive energy to ATC! We’re looking for a Sr. Transmission Line Services Engineer who pairs transmission line knowledge with a customer service mindset. In this role, you’ll lead standards efforts, translate technical information into practical applications, and provide dependable support for engineering, construction and maintenance—helping ensure our assets remain safe, cost effective, and reliable for the communities we serve.

Essential Responsibilities:

 What you’ll do

  • Drive standards excellence. Lead the creation and revision of transmission line design standards, template drawings, specifications, guides, and technical aids; gather input, build consensus, and communicate updates that elevate consistency and clarity.

  • Be a supporting resource. Provide timely support for engineering, construction, and maintenance teams; support problem solving and convert findings into actionable recommendations.

  • Advance our asset performance. Evaluate vendors and factory qualifications, partner with Asset Management and Supply Chain, and support development of pilots that introduce new technologies and provide long term value.

  • Champion continuous improvement. Identify process enhancements across engineering, procurement, and construction to boost quality, efficiency, and consistency.

  • Lead with stewardship and accountability. Take pride in the assets assigned to you by actively guiding standards, performance, condition assessment, risk management, and lifecycle strategies that support long-term system reliability

 What you’ll bring

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.

  • Licensure: Wisconsin and/or Michigan PE not required, but preferred.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in transmission line engineering, design, standards development, asset management, or related utility engineering functions. Field, maintenance, or construction support experience is a plus.

  • Technical depth: Foundational knowledge in one or more areas of transmission line engineering, including foundations, transmission line structures, conductor systems, insulators, line hardware, grounding, clearances, or constructability and maintainability. Candidates are not expected to possess expertise in every discipline; however, demonstrated strength across multiple technical areas and the ability to grow into subject matter expert responsibilities supporting critical Transmission Line Services functions is highly valued.

  • Standards savvy: Familiarity with applicable industry standards and utility practices (e.g., NESC, IEEE, NERC, ASCE, and RUS guidance).

  • Consultant and vendor coordination:  Experience collaborating with engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.

  • Professional strengths: Clear, structured communicator; collaborative team player; analytical, decisive, and field aware; follows through on commitments and keeps stakeholders informed.

Why ATC

  • Purpose-Driven Work: Every project you support helps deliver safe, reliable electricity across the region and enables the energy future.

  • A Safety-First Culture: Safety is our highest priority. We invest in our employees, contractors, and work practices so everyone returns home safely.

  • Meaningful Impact: You'll play a key role in delivering critical transmission infrastructure that supports communities, businesses, and the economy.

  • Professional Growth: Work with experienced industry professionals, gain exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects, and continue building your expertise in the utility industry.

  • Variety and Challenge: No two projects are exactly alike. You'll work across transmission lines, substations, customer projects, system improvements, and emerging grid modernization initiatives.
