Description
Strata offers a variety of electronic safety platforms: fully wireless and resilient communications and tracking, post-emergency communications, proximity detection and collision avoidance (magnetic and camera based), hazardous gas monitoring, smart ventilation control, and Wi-Fi voice and data networks. Additionally, Strata is the global leader in the design and manufacturing of underground emergency refuge chambers, and highly specialized construction products.
Strata has an opening for an Electrical Engineer. The engineer will develop new designs with a focus on circuit board design. The engineer will take part in system design decisions and aid in the creation of mechanical designs to house the circuit boards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will manage outsourced partners to aid in product development when our internal team does not have the expertise or time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, analyze, build, and test electronic hardware to be used in the area of mining proximity and safety products, including schematic creation and PCB layout.
- Take ownership in each product’s lifecycle (design, production, field evaluation, upgrades and improvements)
- Witness firsthand product use in the field and refine as necessary
- Evaluate and integrate new sensor technologies (RF, magnetic, acoustic, visual (camera with ability to run AI model), accelerometer, GPS, and more)Support contract manufacturers in the areas of part obsolescence and part substitutions.
- Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum of 5 years of hands on electronic design and development.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have PCB layout and design experience.
- Experience with Altium is preferred.
- Experience designing analog circuits.
Experience in radio development or electromagnetic fields are a plus. - Experience with standard electronic test equipment including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and multimeters.
Must have strong analytical and decision making skills. - Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to build and maintain key relationships.
- Desire to learn new technologies.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Canonsburg, PA
The incumbent may be required to travel as needed to support development projects within the USA. Trips will likely require overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
C. Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to perform general physical exertions, including walking, standing, climbing, lifting materials or equipment up to twenty pounds occasionally and up to ten pounds frequently. Occasionally required to stoop, knell, crouch, or crawl. Candidate may be required to perform testing and product evaluation in a mining environment.
