HVAC Controls Lead Project Systems Specialist

In this role, you will lead the on-site execution of control systems projects, balancing technical delivery, customer satisfaction, and strong commercial results.
Role Overview
As the Controls Project Manager HVAC, you will act as the on-site project leader for assigned customers. You will plan, execute, and complete control systems projects from design and programming through installation coordination, commissioning, and closeout. This role also carries responsibility for project financial performance, customer communication, subcontractor coordination, and warranty execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead control systems projects on site and ensure work is completed to scope, schedule, quality, and financial objectives.
- Oversee hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and project closeout.
- Manage project costs, billings, collections, profitability goals, and cash flow.
- Actively pursue change orders and evaluate the impact of client bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes.
- Coordinate communication with the customer throughout all phases of the project.
- Provide work direction to subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative support as needed.
- Manage material selection, ordering, vendor pricing, delivery schedules, and subcontractor billing.
- Coordinate panel and field device locations and ensure installation aligns with Johnson Controls literature and project requirements.
- Complete loading, device verification, commissioning, as-built documentation, and final system validation.
- Provide coaching and technical assistance to System Technicians, Electrical Installers, System Designers, and subcontractors.
- Deliver site-specific training to owners and operators and provide manuals and documentation for system operation.
- Support warranty execution and send warranty communication upon substantial completion.
- Maintain strong relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors while attending job progress meetings as required.

- You will implement controls and software programming using established standards and provide clear technical information to customers and internal teams.
- You will look for ways to improve every day, using candor and practical problem-solving to resolve issues and strengthen project execution.
- You will manage procurement carefully, securing pricing and availability from vendors and subcontractors while protecting scope, cost, and schedule.
- You will coordinate commissioning thoroughly, resolve issues across disciplines, and verify that the system performs as designed before handover.
- You will win as one team by collaborating across functions, respecting diverse perspectives, and supporting subcontractors and colleagues toward the same goal.
- You will maintain accurate documentation, forecasts, and project status updates so management and customers have timely visibility.
Qualifications
- Technical associate degree with two years of field experience, or four years of equivalent related field experience in the HVAC industry.
- HVAC experience with mechanical systems and DDC.
- Relevant hands-on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
- Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to perform work independently and manage on-site project activity with limited supervision.
- Strong understanding of control theory and HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.
Nice to Have
- Strong personal computer skills.
- Experience with project management tools such as MS Project or equivalent.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $67,900k-90k (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
