The Release Engineer is responsible for implementing and supporting automated software delivery processes that enable reliable, secure, and repeatable deployments across development, test, non-production, and production environments. This role serves as a technical bridge between Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, Infrastructure, and Operations teams to improve deployment speed, stability, and operational efficiency.

The Release Engineer is responsible for implementing and supporting automated software delivery processes that enable reliable, secure, and repeatable deployments across development, test, non-production, and production environments. This role serves as a technical bridge between Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, Infrastructure, and Operations teams to improve deployment speed, stability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, support, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines to streamline application delivery.
• Standardize build, release, and deployment processes across applications and platforms.
• Establish repeatable, auditable, and traceable release management practices to ensure deployment consistency and compliance.
• Manage and support Git-based source control, branching strategies, and release workflows.
• Integrate automated testing, quality gates, security controls, and compliance checks into deployment pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams to improve deployment efficiency, reliability, and release governance.
• Continuously enhance deployment automation, monitoring, and observability capabilities to proactively identify and mitigate release risks.

• Lead the transition of manual release activities to automated deployment solutions and assist in building a path for Release Management resources to develop Release Engineering competencies, supporting the organization's modernization and automation strategy.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in Release Engineering, DevOps Engineering, Build Engineering, Release Management, Software Engineering, or related technical roles.
• 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise software deployment processes.
• 2+ years of experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.

Technical Skills

• CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent). Source control management (Git).
• Scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
• Application deployment automation.
• Cloud technologies (Azure, GCP, AWS).
• Linux and Windows server administration concepts.
• Monitoring and observability tools.
• Infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy, or highly regulated environments.
• DevOps, Cloud, or SRE certifications.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Experience with ServiceNow Change and Release processes.
• ITIL Foundation certification.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$101,970.00 - $203,940.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
