Assistant Director of Assessing

The Town of Needham is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to fulfill the role of Assistant Director of Assessing. Under the general direction of the Director of Assessing, this position oversees daily office operations, supports property appraisal and valuation work, conducts inspections, and supervises staff within the Assessing Division.

• Oversee daily office operations, supervise staff, and ensure high-quality customer service, record-keeping accuracy, and proper guidance regarding assessment and abatement documentation. 
• Assist the Director of Assessing by researching and providing data for Town officers, reports, local officials and department heads and the Department of Revenue.
• Oversee the field work distribution and inspections, may perform field measurements and inspections of residential and commercial properties.
• Assist with research and data gathering for Appellate Tax Board procedures; assists with analysis of property values, market trends and recent sales data.
• Maintain communication with taxpayers, attorneys, consultants and appraisers.
• Perform data processing procedures for valuation techniques; utilize state and other software platforms. Guide staff on assessing procedures and record management. 
• Support compliance activities including periodic inspections, subdivision review, photo-file updates, and statistical analysis required for recertification.
• Perform other duties as required.

Any equivalent combination of the below-listed education, training, certification, and experience, is qualifying:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 4 to 6 years of related experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Valid driver’s license.

Beneficial but not required: 

• Massachusetts Accredited Assessor's certificate or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire.
