Overview

The HR Generalist, reporting to the HR Business Partner, provides hands-on HR support across the Netherlands and Belgium cluster, working closely with the local HRBP and HR Operations Specialist to deliver accurate, responsive and compliant people processes.

This role supports the HR Operations Specialist with the employee lifecycle & related HR administration and the HRBP with the coordination and delivery of HR activities as needed. 

 

Responsibilities

HR Operations Support

• Support the smooth & compliant employee experience across the Netherlands and Belgium, coordinating onboarding, contracts, employee changes, transfers, promotions and offboarding.

• Administer employee benefits, including pensions, and maintain leave and time records in line with local requirements and internal controls.

• Coordinate sickness absence administration and liaise with occupational health providers such as ArboNed.

• Keep digital personnel records accurate, complete and secure, and support HR audits, statutory documentation, file reviews and regular reporting.

• Provide temporary payroll cover when the HR Operations Specialist is absent, upon alignment with the HRBP and HR Operations Manager. This may include coordinating inputs, preparing information and approving outputs under the Payroll Process SOP; the role does not own monthly payroll processing.

HR Business Partner Support

• Support routine employee relations cases under HRBP guidance by coordinating meetings, preparing documents, tracking actions and escalating complex or sensitive matters.

• Help keep performance, probation, talent and engagement processes on track through clear timelines, communications and follow-up.

• Coordinate approved recruitment and organizational changes, while the HRBP retains decision-making and stakeholder ownership.

• Help deliver learning, policy communications, employee engagement and regional HR projects by coordinating logistics, materials and follow-up.

• Handle confidential information with care, follow privacy and safety requirements, and continuous improvement to a collaborative HR team.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of relevant HR experience, including hands-on HR operations or HR generalist responsibilities.
• Knowledge of Dutch employment legislation is preferred. Familiarity with Belgian employment requirements is an advantage.
• Experience with statutory or government HR portals and occupational-health processes is desirable; familiarity with providers such as ArboNed is an advantage.
• Experience using HRIS (Paylocity or SAP SuccessFactors) and maintaining personnel documentation and confidential records; experience supporting more than one country is an advantage.
• Prior payroll experience is desirable to support temporary operational cover during the HR Operations Specialist’s absence.
• Strong attention to detail, discretion, service orientation, communication and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize requests and work collaboratively across teams.
• Professional working proficiency in English. Dutch is preferred for NL and BE employee support; French is an asset for Belgian support.
