Overview
As a key member of the Donor Relations and Strategic Initiatives team within SOM Development and Alumni Relations, the Staff Writer will create a wide range of content to shape Yale SOM’s stewardship and development engagement priorities, advancing overall strategic direction for the team. Reports to the Senior Director, Development Strategic Initiatives and Engagement.
- Research, write, edit, format, and prepare written communications including Dean’s acknowledgement letters and other customized correspondence, stewardship reports, web and annual report copy, solicitation materials, case statements, proposals, and more.
- Create and collect content to convey the impact of giving to the school by telling the stories of faculty members, students, alumni, and leaders. Engage with constituents and write engaging content for a variety of print and digital projects from letters and stewardship reports to proposals and fundraising collateral.
- Manage review process and dissemination for Dean’s, President’s, and Vice President’s correspondence, working closely with Dean’s office and a team of fundraising and alumni relations professionals.
- Draft solicitations and communications materials, partnering with teams across Development and Alumni Relations, the SOM Dean’s Office, and other areas of the school.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
1 .Demonstrated exceptional written communication skills. Please submit writing samples with application. Ability to adapt writing style to a variety of voices, audiences, and media. Skilled in translating academic content into engaging, readable copy for a general audience. Superior editing and proofreading skills and experience.
2.Demonstrated organizational and research abilities, strong computer skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
3.Ability to prioritize work, juggle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a time-constrained environment.
4. Well-developed verbal and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with staff across the school, including high-level administrators and faculty. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Drafts, formats, proofreads, and edits written materials. 2. Conducts background research and interviews subject-matter experts as well as students, professors, donors and other individuals to provide content for publications. 3. Proactively researches and suggests content to support and reinforce the University’s fundraising goals. 4. Coordinates the production of publications and other communications. 5.
