Summary:
The South Florida Sun Sentinel is seeking an enterprising, versatile News Reporter to cover Broward and Palm Beach counties. In this highly competitive market, breaking news is a core part of the role, but your primary priority will be developing deep, enterprise reporting off that news. We need a journalist who can seamlessly pivot across a wide range of topics, look beyond the surface of initial reports, bring accountability to local governments, and expose key issues impacting our communities.
What you will do:
Consistently break stories across Broward and Palm Beach counties in a fast-paced news environment
Develop enterprise follow-up reporting by looking beyond initial police reports to uncover deeper issues and compelling narratives
Seamlessly pivot across diverse beats, including public safety, criminal justice, and local government accountability
Master public records
Cultivate reliable sources
Translate hard-hitting reporting into compelling stories
Juggle multiple assignments effectively while meeting strict deadlines
What you will bring:
3+ years of reporting experience (experience with student media counts toward total)
Strong self-starter attitude with exceptional organizational and time-management skills
Proven capability to analyze public records and build a strong network of sources
Demonstrated success in enterprise reporting and compelling news writing
Preferred additional skills in data analysis or visualization, shooting and editing field video, or leveraging social media to build a beat audience

Conditions of Employment:

Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
