As a Security Engineer Specialist - Safe Browsing, you will help the team in its mission to protect the company’s users. Our goals include: increasing the coverage, accuracy, and speed of Safe Browsing enforcement systems; understanding the global threat environment for phishing, malware, and unwanted software; and improving the user experience, both internally and externally, by communicating with webmasters, users, and partners.
You will become an expert in the workings of phishing and malware, and you will help the team to detect and prevent these abuses at scale. You will work to ensure that the trust users place not only in Safe Browsing, but also in the company as a broader brand and company, is well founded. You will demonstrate analytical thinking and make data-driven decisions.
Position Responsibilities
Investigate potentially malicious websites and software to understand their behavior and impact on users, including phishing, malware, and social engineering threats
Develop basic data analyses using SQL and Python to identify harmful entities, examine trends, pinpoint system vulnerabilities, and gather intelligence on threats targeting websites at scale.
Effectively use internal and third-party threat analysis tools to analyze URLs and payloads, and execute multi-stage workflows for malware intelligence collection and customer onboarding.
Diagnose detection gaps and root causes, then take appropriate action, and contribute to improving existing systems.
Review and classify escalations, manage bug resolution, and communicate effectively with reporters and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and collaborative problem-solving.
Configure an analytical dashboard for reporting
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or an equivalent technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Hands-on experience in security operations, web content review, or a related analytical support role.
Familiarity with interpreting and analyzing data using querying languages (e.g., SQL) and basic scripting concepts.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to follow complex instructions and workflows accurately and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of common online threats such as phishing, malware, or unwanted software.
Basic understanding of how machine learning models are applied in security contexts.
Experience with bug tracking systems for task management and status updates.
Familiarity with cloud environments and related concepts.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively in writing.
Proactive approach to learning new tools and adapting to evolving threat landscapes.
