Flight Test Ground Station Systems Architect (m/w/d)

Your tasks and responsibilities
As a Systems & Software Architect for the Flight Test Ground Station (FTGS)
you will lead the end-to-end architectural lifecycle for a complex suite of flight test tools, including FTGS-Core, FIDA, and various Add-On tools.
you will be responsible for defining and documenting comprehensive system requirements, balancing operational needs, technical constraints, and stringent regulatory requirements.
your core mission involves developing and iterating robust architectures encompassing hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
Utilizing established architectural patterns and best practices, you will design modular, scalable systems and produce high-quality design specifications, interface definitions, and technical documentation.
You will play a decisive role in evaluating and selecting the technologies and components necessary for successful system implementation, ensuring seamless interoperability and compatibility between various subsystems and external interfaces.
Beyond design, you will drive technical excellence by establishing development best practices, conducting detailed design studies, and overseeing validation and verification (V&V) strategies. You will actively support the system integration process and contribute to the creation of test strategies to validate architecture and performance.
A key aspect of this role is cross-functional leadership within an Integrated Product Team (IPT). You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including software, hardware, test, and operations engineers—to resolve complex technical challenges.
By leading "tiger teams" to address critical issues and facilitating continuous improvement through rigorous retrospectives, you will ensure long-term technical consistency.
Furthermore, you will remain at the forefront of the industry by monitoring emerging technologies and trends in flight test and ground station systems, ensuring the FTGS toolchain remains cutting-edge and future-proof.
Desired skills and qualifications
Education: Completed university degree (Master’s or Diploma) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
Professional Experience: Several years of professional experience in system architecture or the design of complex technical systems, ideally within the Aerospace or Defense sectors.
Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of Flight Test Ground Station systems, telemetry, data processing, and data analysis.
Technical Proficiency:
Advanced expertise in C++ development and software design patterns.
Strong command of Linux environments and system administration.
Proven experience with various software/hardware architectures and network protocols.
Expertise in defining system requirements and creating architectural models (e.g., UML, SysML).
Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative, scalable solutions.
Soft Skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary, international environment.
Languages: Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
Travel: Willingness to undertake occasional business travel.
Preferred: Practical experience in flight test analysis is advantageous.
