Job Description

To lead or contribute significantly to the administration, operation, and lifecycle management of the bank’s AS400 systems and associated infrastructure platforms. The role requires deep technical expertise in AS400 and related systems, with the flexibility to evolve into a leadership position or integrate into an existing team structure.

Key Responsibilities

AS400 System & Infrastructure Management

• Oversee the setup, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of AS400 systems.
• Perform OS and third-party system software installation and upgrades to keep up with technology changes.
• Monitor and tune both OS and online applications for optimal performance.
• Conduct system and storage capacity planning and management.
• Review and perform periodic maintenance on system hardware and software (OS and third-party).
• Investigate and resolve system-related problems promptly and effectively.
• Evaluate and recommend system software packages aligned with business and technology needs.
• Deploy proactive diagnostic, monitoring, and preventive management tools.
• Strategic Planning & Solutioning
• Lead or support hardware and software strategic planning to meet evolving business requirements and technology directions.
• Contribute to infrastructure planning, design, implementation, and support of AS400 solutions.

Lifecycle & Operations Oversight

• Ensure end-to-end lifecycle support for AS400 systems including upgrades, patching, and decommissioning.
• Maintain system documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Team Management & Collaboration

• Lead a small team comprising one permanent staff and contract resources (if appointed as Unit Head).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
• Collaborate with other infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and support.

Support for Related Systems

• Manage and support additional infrastructure platforms including:
•   Mimix – High Availability/Replication
•   Connect:Direct – Secure File Transfers
•   Control-M – Job Scheduling
•   Aldon and Thenon – Change Management Tools
•   Report2Web – Reporting and Document Distribution

Organizational Flexibility

• Adapt to potential team restructuring or integration under another unit.
• Take on individual contributor responsibilities if leadership placement is not feasible.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in AS400 system administration.
• Strong technical knowledge in AS400 architecture, CL programming, system commands, and performance tuning.
• Experience with infrastructure tools listed above is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement effective solutions.
• Leadership experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
