What we want

The Diabetes Education Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and collecting/reporting activity data for all of the Diabetes Education Program (DEP) activities. Works collaboratively with leadership to plan, develop and implement programs. Assists in establishing short and long-term goals and strategic planning. This position will be primarily located at the main Texas A&M Health – Rio Grande Valley office in McAllen, TX.

Location/Schedule: McAllen, TX/Full-Time;   

  • This position may require up to 30 % or more travel

  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends

Responsibilities

Coordination

  • Planning, coordinating, documenting, and evaluating all the Diabetes Education Program (DEP) activities throughout the service area of the Rio Grande Valley (Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy Counties). Maintain a close working relationship with the Director and keep well informed of all program activities, changes, issues, data collection/analysis, and/or concerns.

  • Assist in the development of special reports and/or information requested by the Director.

  • Travels to various locations within the service area of the Rio Grande Valley (Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy Counties) for program activities.

  • Occasional travel to Corpus Christi and/or College Station, TX for training, meetings, etc. 

  • Point and lead person for data collection and analysis for all DEP activities.

  • Responsible for the coordination of the evaluation component of the DEP, all its communication, marketing, and meetings.

  • Coordinates social media for the program as well as assists as needed the coordination of social media and marketing of other programs within the office.

  • Works closely with staff and leadership to coordinate/facilitate new and expanded community DEP activities and initiatives.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with community stakeholders and DEP participants.

Administrative

  • Assists in establishing short and long-term goals and strategic planning.

  • May assist in the supervision of the non-clinical program staff to include student workers.

  • Oversees daily fiscal and purchasing activities and assists in preparation and monitoring of budgets for programs and events.

  • Develops, updates training materials and delivers training as needed.

  • Performs ongoing review of program service delivery and addresses any identified issues, to include specific communication with program staff and/or participants.

Back-up functions

  • Serve as a back-up to complete participant biometric screenings, deliver presentations in the community, and coordinate functions related to new or ancillary programmatic functions.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Four years of program coordination or program administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual; fluent in English and Spanish.

  • Four years of program administration experience in a healthcare setting.

  • A Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage accurate data entry and synthesize complex information into clear, actionable reports.

  • Proactive problem-solver with the ability to review program data, identify trends and/or areas for improvement and make recommendations to optimize operations/services.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Skilled in data management/entry, reporting/analytics, and using data tools.

  • Knowledge of health issues affecting the area.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
