Description
About the Company
At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business. A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight. Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.
Meet the Team
This team is looking for someone with combined technical and product management experience to define and drive the next generation of on-road autonomous driving technology, meeting customer needs as effectively and efficiently as possible. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to define the capabilities and features that will unlock autonomous driving, deliver actionable product definitions and roadmaps to achieve product milestones, integrate plans with organizational leaders, gather feedback from customers and stakeholders, and maintain a backlog that balances customer requirements with technological feasibility and company objectives. You'll own the product definition, scope, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration needed to enable the product development plan for your area, and serve as a subject matter expert. In the near term, this role will specialize in Mapping, defining the maps and localization data our automated trucks rely on, with room to grow into other Virtual Driver domains such as ODD quantification and simulation as the team's needs evolve. You'll work closely with potential customers, engineering, technical partners, strategy, marketing, and sales to ensure the product meets the needs of Torc and future customers.
What You'll Do
- Drive the product vision internally by developing high-quality product definition, scoping, and prioritization, with an initial focus on Mapping (map data, coverage, freshness, and quality) and the flexibility to extend into other Virtual Driver domains over time.
- Drive the development of product features and functionality by liaising between the engineering team and relevant stakeholders. Gather user requirements, build product requirements, and communicate with engineering and other stakeholders at all levels of planning and execution.
- Define clear, testable, and concise high-quality product requirements, success metrics, and prioritization based on customer feedback, market research, and business priorities, and effectively communicate them to the relevant TPM and engineering teams.
- Partner with the Mapping and Localization engineering team specifically, analyzing on-road data and map quality metrics to identify the highest-impact coverage gaps and translate them into roadmap priorities.
- Develop and propose process improvement initiatives to ensure cross-functional alignment between teams and projects. Support the process rollout and iterative cycle for continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in regular planning exercises to support product prioritization across the company.
- Analyze and understand customer, commercial, and technical constraints and tradeoffs by collaborating with engineering, commercial, legal, safety, and regulatory teams to inform product roadmaps and backlogs. Recommend a path forward with agreement from senior managers.
- Define, analyze, communicate, and continuously update key product plans and metrics to ensure priorities remain up to date.
- Develop and execute compelling customer demos and customer meeting outcomes.
- Collaborate, research, review competitor communications, and analyze and compare competing products, including their mapping and localization approaches, to ensure Torc maintains the best products available.
- Help set, track, and achieve goals aligned with company-wide vision, goals, and initiatives.
- Champion customer-focused development across Torc and support the business in embracing a customer-centric work culture.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Demonstrates competencies and technical proficiencies typically acquired through one of the following:
- BS+ in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 10+ years of experience
- MS+ in a related field, plus 7+ years of experience
- PhD+ in a related field, plus 5+ years of experience
- Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline; conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.
- Demonstrated experience with multiple products, not just a particular area of interest or expertise. Should be willing to be PM for a wide range of topics, with Mapping as the immediate priority.
- Experience with autonomous driving systems, advanced driver-assistance systems, mapping and localization, and/or related robotics technologies.
- Understanding of automotive systems, including software, hardware, and systems integration, verification and validation, testing, safety, and compliance.
- Understanding of applicable safety standards and regulations related to autonomous vehicles (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF, FuSa, UL4600, AVSC, etc.).
Bonus Points!
- Experience with HD maps, localization, or SLAM concepts, and familiarity with map data standards (e.g., Lanelet2, OpenDRIVE) or third-party map data providers.
- Experience with Operational Design Domain (ODD) definition.
- Experience working with JAMA, Cameo, or related tools.
- Experience defining fault- and failure-tolerant safety-critical systems.
