MarshDescription:
Marsh is seeking an experienced Client Relationship Manager to join our Private Equity and M&A (PEMA) team in Tokyo. This is a high-impact opportunity for a commercially minded professional who can operate confidently in complex, fast-moving environments, build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, and translate client needs into differentiated insurance solutions.
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, PEMA Japan, the Client Relationship Manager will play a central role in developing and managing relationships across the Japanese M&A ecosystem. The role is responsible for originating new opportunities, coordinating the placement of M&A-related insurance policies—including representations and warranties insurance, and delivering responsive, high-quality insurance-related services to clients and partners. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise sound commercial judgement, manage complex priorities with appropriate autonomy and contribute to the continued growth and reputation of the PEMA business in Japan. The role will work across Marsh, insurers, law firms, investment banks, private equity funds and corporate clients, connecting expertise across the organisation to deliver outcomes that matter.
We will count on you to:
- Lead new client development activity across relevant sectors and segments, building a sustainable pipeline of opportunities in the Japanese market.
- Drive sales activities for M&A-related insurance products, including representations and warranties insurance, as well as broader insurance-related services.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders at law firms, investment banks, private equity funds, financial sponsors, large corporations and insurers.
- Lead the arrangement and placement of M&A-related insurance policies, coordinating stakeholders from initial opportunity through to execution and completion.
- Prepare and deliver clear, commercially relevant proposals that reflect each client’s transaction context, risk profile and strategic objectives.
- Propose and arrange post-acquisition insurance programmes, identifying opportunities to support clients beyond the initial transaction.
- Oversee the preparation of insurance due diligence reports, ensuring that analysis is rigorous, practical and clearly communicated to clients and transaction advisers.
- Negotiate and coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and external parties, including insurers and professional advisers.
- Partner with colleagues in Japan and overseas to share market intelligence, leverage specialist expertise and ensure a consistent client experience.
- Contribute to the development of new solutions and approaches as the M&A insurance market evolves, proactively adopting relevant trends and practices.
- Promote high standards of governance, risk awareness, quality and client service in all activities.
What you need to have:
We are looking for a commercially focused relationship professional who combines technical credibility with the confidence and curiosity to engage senior decision-makers. You will ideally bring several of the following:
- Experience in sales or business development within a non-life insurance company, preferably in a corporate sales division.
- A strong sales mindset and demonstrated ability to identify, develop and convert opportunities.
- Commercial judgement, with the ability to understand complex situations and provide practical, client-oriented advice.
- Practical M&A, financial advisory or transaction experience gained at an investment bank, professional services firm or comparable organisation.
- Experience working with law firms, investment banks, private equity funds, financial sponsors and/ or large corporate clients.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with related departments in Japan and overseas.
- Flexibility to manage a wide variety of cases—domestic and international, across different sizes, sectors and industries.
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- An inclusive, team-oriented approach and a commitment to Marsh’s client-first values.
- A Japanese legal qualification with practical experience in corporate legal affairs; M&A experience is preferred.
- Resilience, sound prioritisation and comfort working to demanding transaction timelines.
- Proactivity in identifying new market trends, developing knowledge and improving ways of working.
- Fluency in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively in English as the common language within the team.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to prepare polished client materials and analyse information efficiently.
