Shipping Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating and processing the shipment of finished goods, materials, and other products from the facility. This position ensures shipments are accurately prepared, documented, labeled, and loaded while maintaining accurate inventory and shipping records. The Shipping Clerk serves as an important link between Customer Service, Production, Quality, Accounting, customers, and transportation providers to ensure shipments are accurate, properly documented, and delivered according to customer requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and process shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, shipping labels, and other required paperwork.
• Verify customer orders against products being shipped to ensure accuracy of part numbers, quantities, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate daily shipments with carriers, customers, and internal departments.
• Schedule pickups and communicate shipping requirements to carriers and drivers.
• Inspect shipments for proper packaging, labeling, and documentation prior to shipment.
• Ensure products are properly secured and loaded for transportation.
• Accurately enter shipping transactions and maintain records in the company’s ERP or shipping system.
• Verify weights, quantities, and dimensions of shipments as required.
• Maintain shipping logs and documentation for traceability.
• Assist with inventory transactions related to receiving, shipping, and material movement.
• Communicate shipment delays, shortages, damages, or other issues to appropriate leadership.
• Maintain an organized and safe shipping area.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and material-handling equipment.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment as authorized and trained.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and files in accordance with company procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The position involves walking and lifting, up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.

Requirements

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, or manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Advanced computer skills and the ability to learn ERP and shipping software.
• Advanced Microsoft Office experience, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to read and understand shipping documents, purchase orders, packing lists, and customer requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, drivers, carriers, and customers.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required.
• Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate material-handling equipment.
• Ability to work around moving equipment, forklifts, trucks, and other industrial hazards.
