Our work depends on a TS/SCI‑cleared Senior Technical Editor joining our team to support our intelligence customer in Springfield, VA to support critical intelligence missions through rigorous requirements analysis, solution development, and high-impact proposal support.
Job Description Summary
This Senior Technical Editor role is responsible for leading business development and solution design activities across multiple IT programs. In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and analysts collaborating across User-Facing, Data Center, Cloud, Operations, and multi-disciplinary Engineering teams, as well as new capabilities for emerging mission needs.
You will shape IT infrastructure solutions that directly address client requirements through comprehensive requirements analysis, systems modeling, and strategic problem-solving. This position covers the full lifecycle of solution development for proposals and projects, including requirements gathering, conceptualization, documentation, cost estimation, and delivery of high-quality proposal artifacts.
As a senior-level technical editor, you will serve as a key technical and functional interface between customers, engineering teams, and business development, ensuring that proposed solutions are feasible, compliant, and aligned with mission objectives.
Key Responsibilities by Core Competencies:
- Technical Editing & Content Quality
- Edit, revise, and proofread technical and proposal content for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and tone, ensuring alignment with solicitation requirements and GDIT standards.
- Ensure all proposal sections and technical documents are grammatically correct, logically organized, and compliant with RFP/RFI instructions and evaluation criteria.
- Standardize terminology, style, and formatting across proposals and related documents, adhering to established style guides and templates.
- Collaboration with Technical & Proposal Teams
- Work closely with engineers, systems analysts, project managers, and proposal managers to clarify technical concepts and ensure they are communicated effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Analyze customer needs to determine functional and non-functional requirements for a wide variety of IT infrastructure and enterprise systems projects.
- Participate in content development meetings, Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), and solution review sessions to understand the solution approach and messaging requirements.
- Translate customer requirements into clear system specifications, use cases, and high-level architectures to guide solution design and technical approach.
- Provide editorial guidance and coaching to authors and subject matter experts to improve the quality and coherence of their written contributions.
- Proposal Support & Document Management
- Support the full proposal lifecycle, including storyboarding, draft reviews, pink/red team revisions, and final production of proposal volumes and supporting documents.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining proposal content libraries, reference materials, and reusable text, ensuring they are current, accurate, and easy to use.
- Coordinate version control and document tracking to maintain a clear audit trail of changes throughout proposal development.
- Messaging & Customer Deliverables
- Develop and refine program-related messaging, including executive summaries, technical narratives, and key win themes that highlight GDIT’s value proposition.
- Manage proposal content, including reference material and documentation used to create proposals, and maintain records in accordance with program, corporate, and government standards and policies.
- Edit and prepare technical briefings, reports, and other major documents for senior government and contractor leadership, ensuring messaging is concise, compelling, and tailored to the audience.
- Help ensure that all customer-facing deliverables reflect a professional, consistent, and mission-focused voice.
- Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to templates, style guides, and editorial processes to enhance consistency and efficiency across proposals and technical documentation.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies, customer environments, and industry terminology to accurately interpret and present technical content.
- Participate in special projects as required to support proposal excellence and communications best practices.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, or a related discipline; or a technical degree with demonstrated expertise in technical writing/editing.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in technical editing, technical writing, proposal editing, or related documentation support for engineering or IT programs.
- Demonstrated experience editing and developing bids for engineering or IT infrastructure proposals, ensuring alignment with customer needs, solicitation requirements, and business goals.
- Experience editing technical documentation, program-related messaging, and customer deliverables, including briefings, reports, and proposal volumes.
- Ability to work with technical staff to interpret complex technical concepts and present them in clear, concise, and audience-appropriate language.
- Strong familiarity with Enterprise IT Infrastructure concepts (e.g., data center management lifecycle, desktop hosting/end user computing, unified communications, end user device support, video & A/V support) sufficient to accurately edit related content.
- Experience supporting proposals under IT Service Management and service-based contract vehicles, including understanding of SLAs and catalog-based services.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail, grammar, and style.
- Exceptional interpersonal and client-facing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Active TS/SCI clearance and eligibility to obtain a CI Polygraph.
Desired Qualifications
- Current and relevant customer experience within the target intelligence or federal customer environment.
- ITIL certification or familiarity with ITIL-based service management frameworks (helpful for understanding and editing ITSM-related content).
- Experience supporting federal/government proposals and working within secure or classified environments.
- Experience using proposal collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, or similar content management platforms).
- Manage proposal content, including reference material and documentation used to create proposals, and maintain records in accordance with program, corporate, and government standards and policies.
