First Baptist Church is a medium size congregation who is currently celebrating 106 years of service to our community. Throughout the years, the church has remained a pillar in the community, providing spiritual leadership, outreach ministries, youth development, and compassionate care for generations of families. We are prayerfully seeking an energetic, high-capacity Pastor who follows the Holy Spirit’s directions, has the spirit of servanthood, spirit of humility, who has integrity, a cheerful attitude and has a tertiary education. One who models the biblical description in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
Position Summary:
The Pastor provides spiritual leadership, vision, and pastoral care for the church members. This role is responsible for preaching, teaching, visioning, and equipping staff, leadership, and volunteers to fulfill the mission of the church. The Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader and works in partnership with the leadership team to guide the church’s direction, health, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Preaching
- Prepare and deliver weekly sermons aligned with scripture and church vision for Sunday Service.
- Lead teaching series and theological direction of the church to help members grow in their faith.
- Ensure biblical integrity in all teaching environments.
- Officiate special events such as baptism, communion, weddings, funerals and child dedications.
Vision and Spiritual Leadership
- Model Christlike character and servant leadership while leading the congregation in prayer and evangelism.
- Cast, communicate, and implement a vision that embodies our church mission.
- Lead strategic planning with leadership team.
- Guide organizational priorities and spiritual direction
- Work collaboratively with trustees, deacons, and leadership team on vision, strategic planning, and administrative responsibilities.
Pastoral Care
- Provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care for church members, leaders, and staff.
- Administers counseling, encouragement, and spiritual guidance as needed.
- Lead in times of crisis, transition, or organizational change.
- Design and implement a process to follow-up on inactive members that fosters a welcome community.
Leadership Development and Administration
- Equip and develop staff and volunteer leaders.
- Build a healthy leadership culture rooted in discipleship.
- Identify and support future leaders and ministers within the church.
- Develop and empower volunteers to serve in ministry according to their spiritual gifts.
- Oversee day-to-day operations.
Organizational Alignment
- Partner with trustee board, deacons and leadership team.
- Ensure alignment between ministries and church mission.
- Support healthy systems for church operations and growth.
Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships within Pittsburg community and beyond.
- Lead the church in reaching the community through evangelism that welcome others into our church.
- Represent the church in denomination and local communities.
Qualifications
- Strong moral character who models what it means to follow Jesus Christ and be active in pursuit of the heart of God in prayer, bible study, Christian fellowship as well as, other spiritual disciplines.
- A committed leader who actively participates in church service and ministry activities.
- Faith alignment with First Baptist Church, our Statement of Values and a willingness to uphold and teach at its core.
- Minimum of an Associate of Arts degree in Divinity, Christian Theology or Pastoral Ministry.
- Ordination with 5-10 years of pastoral or ministry leadership experience.
- Strong preaching, teaching, and public speaking.
- Experience providing pastoral counseling, shepherding, pastoral care, and have an impactful vision for community outreach.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading staff, volunteers, and ministry teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, consistently organize information and resources efficiently.
- Good project management skills and team collaboration skills.
- The ability to handle confidential information when working with congregation members to best counsel and comfort the church in times of crisis.
- Must be proficient with computers and have the ability to utilize application software.
