Position Summary:
Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor on our Fond du Lac Campus. The Academic Advisor is responsible for the life cycle of a student from acceptance to graduation which involves initiating and sustaining communication with students in designated program areas to facilitate registration, enrollment, and overall academic support. This position focuses on retention by providing program specific information, registration guidance, career advice, and academic support through one on one meetings and referrals to appropriate support services.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, human services, business, or a related field and three years of related occupational experience in a post-secondary educational setting. Responsibilities:
• Provide advising and coaching to admitted students in assigned programs, clearly explaining academic procedures, course options, MPTC policies and available support resources. Create degree plans that outline requirements for achieving graduation. Assist current students with career coaching. Address complex student issues through collaboration and problem-solving to find effective, student-focused solutions. • Collaborate with faculty and associate deans to develop student interventions that promote retention, persistence, and on-time graduation utilizing CRM and ERP data. Maintain student records, grant reporting, and communications within CRM and Banner data systems. • Proactively engage and recruit stopped-out students to facilitate college re-enrollment. Ensure the re-enrollment of existing students through multiple communication methods. Participate in recruitment and college events to attract prospective students. • Recognize signs of student stress and burnout and coordinate connections to appropriate resources. • Collaborate with appropriate deans, faculty, and employees regarding significant programmatic and curricular changes. Participate in program and faculty meetings for designated academic programs. • Manage sensitive and confidential information in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures. • Recognize, recommend, and implement process improvements based on data, best practices, customer satisfaction studies, and related feedback. • Coordinate onboarding and group orientation sessions. Actively participate in program field events and additional program involvement based on needs.
Experience & Qualifications(in addition to those listed in the summary above):
• Must possess or be willing to obtain Global Career Development Facilitator training.• Familiarity with the needs of two-year college students. • Knowledge of ERP systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.• Exceptional problem-solving skills. This includes the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; analyze information, resolve problems and make recommendations.• High degree of integrity and professionalism and a demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.• Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Desired Qualifications:• Experience in a technical college setting.• Experience with the student information system, Banner.• Experience with Zoom.• Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Hiring Range: $29.97-$34.75
Starting: Immediately
Workplace Flexibility: Limited work from home upon approval
Hours/Schedule/Travel: Academic: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours), Summer: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (34 hours)
