We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Bromsgrove District and Redditch to assist with the appointment of a Technical Accountant Closedown Review, on a 4-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary:
Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council are seeking an experienced Interim Technical Accountant to support a key finance workstream focused on reviewing the authorities' 2025/26 closedown arrangements and Statement of Accounts.
The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive review of the closedown process, supporting working papers, governance and technical accounting arrangements, identifying opportunities to improve audit readiness, financial controls, governance and compliance with CIPFA requirements. The role will also provide wider support to the Corporate Finance team, undertaking duties aligned with a Chief Accountant function where required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a comprehensive review of the 2025/26 revenue and capital closedown processes.
- Review the Statement of Accounts, notes, working papers and supporting documentation.
- Assess ownership, accountability, team structure and capacity across the closedown process.
- Review closedown timetables, workload allocation and statutory deadline performance.
- Review balance sheet control accounts and reconciliation arrangements.
Qualifications:
- Fully qualified CCAB accountant – CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent.
Essentials:
- Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience.
- Extensive Local Government finance experience.
- Significant experience of year-end closedown and accounts production.
- Proven experience producing and reviewing Statements of Accounts.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge within a local authority environment.
- Strong understanding of the CIPFA Code of Practice and local authority accounting requirements.
