Summary:
As an Associate Manager - Custom Software Engineering, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of complex software solutions across multiple projects while managing and mentoring technical teams. You will collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, delivery leads, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technology solutions. The role requires driving engineering excellence, ensuring successful project execution, managing risks and dependencies, and fostering a high-performance team culture. You will leverage your technical expertise in Java and Spring technologies, along with Life Insurance domain knowledge, to deliver innovative and reliable business solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage multiple software development projects and workstreams, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
- Manage, mentor, and coach a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and product owners to define solution approaches and delivery roadmaps.
- Drive technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and implementation strategies for enterprise applications.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, development best practices, security guidelines, and quality processes.
- Oversee application development, integration, deployment, and production support activities.
- Identify project risks, dependencies, and resource needs, proactively implementing mitigation plans.
- Lead estimation, planning, sprint execution, and release management activities using Agile methodologies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through automation, DevOps practices, and engineering process optimization.
- Engage with client and leadership teams to provide project status updates, technical guidance, and strategic recommendations.
- Contribute to solution proposals, effort estimations, and technical reviews for new business opportunities.
- Drive knowledge sharing, innovation, and adoption of emerging technologies within the team.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Must Have Skills: Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Spring Integration.
- Strong Life Insurance domain knowledge.
- Experience leading development teams and managing multiple project deliveries.
- Expertise in designing and developing enterprise-scale applications and APIs.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and DevOps practices.
- Technical Competencies
- Languages: Java EE, XML, JSON, Groovy, SQL.
- Frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Integration.
- Tools: Postman/ARC, Visual Studio Code, Jenkins, Git, SVN, DBeaver/Squirrel.
- Experience with RESTful services, integration patterns, Data Architecture Principles, ETL and microservices architecture.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and release management processes.
Good to Have:
- Azure or AWS Cloud fundamentals and application deployment experience.
- Working knowledge of Linux commands and shell scripting.
- Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with API management platforms and enterprise integration tool.
Leadership & Management Skills:
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams across multiple projects and geographical locations.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Ability to balance technical leadership with project and people management responsibilities.
Additional Information:
- Minimum 10+ years of overall software development experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in Spring Boot and enterprise application development.
- Prior experience leading technical teams is required.
- Experience in the Life Insurance domain is highly preferred.
- This position is based at our Mumbai office.
