The City of Groveport, Ohio is central Ohio's small town. Groveport is a growing City in southeastern Franklin County. The community has a state-of-the-art recreation and aquatic center, a world class golf course, an excellent arts and education program, several parks and a quaint Main Street historic area. We are looking for a Clerk of Courts to join our team. QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:

Completion of secondary education or equivalent; associate degree in political science or law-related area; or one (1) year related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

Notary Public; must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Municipality’s vehicle insurance policy.

Cellular phone, personal computer, computer software, printer, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard business office equipment.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; occasionally lifts objects 20 lbs or less; occasionally carries objects 20 lbs or less; occasionally pushes objects 20 lbs or less; occasionally pulls objects 20 lbs or less.

Note:  In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:

JOB DUTIES in order of importance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

25%(1)  Assists the public in person and by phone, including retrieving information and files, and providing general information regarding scheduling of court dates, defensive driving, warrants, and granting extensions; assists the public in problem solving and research activities.

35%(2)  Compiles, types, records, and issues a wide variety of court records, reports, and materials (e.g., citations, summons, warrants, letters, reports, complaints, etc.); coordinates court schedule; serves as legal assistant for Director of Law with respect to municipal court matters.

20%(3)  Processes court payments on citations and prepares and issues receipts upon payment.

20%(4)  Sorts, files, copies, and distributes court documents and reports to appropriate personnel; processes paperwork required by law for cases appealed to a higher court; files all documentation according to established procedures.

(5) Maintains contact with the general public, attorneys, officers, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential potential functions.

(6)   Maintains required licensures and certification.

(7)  Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

(8)   Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

(9)   Performs Clerk of Council responsibilities in absence of Clerk of Council.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS:(*indicates developed after employment)

Knowledge of:  local court rules and procedures; *municipal goals and objectives; *municipal policies and procedures; government structure and process; *personnel rules; workplace safety practices and procedures; courtroom procedures; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; project management.

Skill in:  data entry; word processing; computer operation; use of modern office equipment; motor vehicle operation.

Ability to:  interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; work alone on most tasks; answer routine telephone inquiries; develop and maintain effective working relationships; travel to and gain access to work site.

Salary Range: $54,792.40 ($26.34) - $71,699.16 ($34.47)
