About Lumentum
At Lumentum, we’re building the tech behind the world’s fastest networks and most advanced systems. Our optical and photonic solutions power everything from AI and cloud computing to data centers, telecom, and advanced manufacturing.
We’re a global team of innovators working where light meets technology, solving big challenges that keep the world connected and moving forward. If shaping the future of connectivity excites you, you’ll fit right in.
About the role
We’re looking for an engineer to build the automation and software our photonics manufacturing runs on: process automation, test automation, machine vision, data acquisition and analytics, modernizing the software we already depend on, and more. You’ll work where fiber optics, electronics, motion, and code all meet. This is primarily a software development role, but one that keeps you in the lab and on the manufacturing floor with the hardware you’re automating.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own projects from requirements through to manufacturing deployment, working with the team to identify what’s needed, turning it into a clean and agreed set of requirements, producing a design that stands up to review, then implementing and documenting it
- Build test and process automation systems that integrate a wide array of test, measurement, and automation equipment -- motion control stages, power supplies, fiber optic and laser sources, optical and electrical instrumentation, cameras and vision systems
- Develop machine vision and inspection automation for manufacturing
- Develop the data acquisition and analytics layers that turn raw measurement into engineering and production insight
- Take on existing software: extend it, modernize it, keep it running
- Work alongside design, process, manufacturing, and production teams, and communicate requirements, designs, and results clearly to all of them
What We’re Looking For
Education:
Degree in Engineering physics, Electrical engineering, or similar
Experience:
Core Requirements:
- 5+ years in automation, test, or software engineering in a hardware environment.
- Strong programming fundamentals. Our primary stack is C#/.NET on Windows, but we also use Python for a variety of applications, including Linux-based backend services, automation, and analytics. We also use various web technologies as the need arises. We care more about how well you program than which languages you’ve used, provided you’re comfortable working in ours.
- The ability to run a project with minimal direction: read a specification, ask the right questions, define the criteria, and deliver
- Hands-on comfort with hardware (instruments, motion systems, fiber, cabling, signals) and the patience to chase a problem that isn’t in the code
- An understanding of production realities: uptime, throughput, repeatability, and the difference between a working prototype and something production can rely on
- Device physics understanding is a major plus, as is fiber optics and photonics experience, although we’re glad to teach the optics to a strong engineer
Perks You’ll Love
- Flexible time off
- Health and wellness benefits (physical and mental)
- Tuition reimbursement and career growth support
- A workplace built for you: free gym, games room, prayer room
- Subsidized meals, free coffee/tea
- Employee stock options and incentive plans
- A collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $150,000 CAD. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
