Position: Staff Assistant / Administrative Support
Department: Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners
Pay Rate: $16.00–$17.00 per hour, depending on experience
Status: Full-Time
The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for full-time Staff Assistant / Administrative Support positions. Because this recruitment may be used to fill positions in various County departments, we are looking for friendly, dependable, and flexible individuals who enjoy helping others and are willing to work wherever their skills are most needed. Department assignments will be determined based on current County needs and available vacancies. Staff Assistants provide administrative, clerical, customer service, and general office support to County departments. Specific duties may vary depending upon the department and operational needs. Applicants selected through this posting may be considered for more than one vacancy for which they meet the qualifications.
The ideal candidate will possess strong clerical and organizational skills, excellent customer service abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a professional office environment.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Work schedules may vary slightly depending upon departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Experience as a Staff Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Office Clerk, Receptionist, or similar administrative role
-
Strong customer service and public interaction skills
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
-
Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines
-
Strong typing and data-entry skills
-
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
-
Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information
-
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous experience in local government or a public-sector office
-
Experience working with records, applications, permits, payments, purchasing, or other administrative processes

Experience assisting the public and responding to customer inquiries
-
Experience with specialized office software, databases, or records-management systems
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Duties may vary by department and may include, but are not limited to:

Answer phones and assist members of the public professionally and courteously
-
Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate department or staff member
-
Receive, review, and process applications, forms, records, and other documents

Perform data entry and maintain accurate electronic and paper records
-
Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, forms, and other documents
-
Respond to emails, telephone calls, and routine requests for information
-
Schedule appointments, meetings, inspections, or other departmental activities as applicable
-
Accept, document, and reconcile payments when assigned
-
Maintain departmental files and assist with records retention and public records requests
-
Assist department supervisors and other staff with daily administrative functions
-
Coordinate with other County departments and offices as needed
-
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive or exempt information
-
Perform general administrative and clerical duties as assigned

Perform other related duties necessary to support County operations
