Job Description Summary
The Lead Robotics and Automation Engineer will drive the industrialization of next-generation robotic and AI-augmented automation cells across our global gas turbine manufacturing and repair operations. We are looking for someone who can bridge high-level computational analytics with shop-floor reality. You will own strategic, multi-million-dollar CAPEX portfolios while mentoring engineering teams to scale complex automated systems globally.Job Description
Required Qualifications
- Lead the lifecycle management of robotic systems—from initial simulation and offline programming to prototyping solutions, full-scale shop-floor deployment and qualification.
- Architect robust, scalable automation cells integrating industrial and collaborative robots with PLCs, vision systems, and facility-level MES/SCADA networks.
- Apply computational analytics, deep learning (Computer Vision/Mask R-CNN), and high-dimensional data analysis to drive process repeatability and defect detection.
- Serve as a technical mentor for Edison Engineers, interns and junior engineers; lead global projects across Engineering, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams.
- Apply Lean principles to eliminate waste, optimize cycle times, reduce scrap, and manage annual CAPEX and tooling portfolios.
- Standardize programming protocols, IT/OT server administration, and documentation for global manufacturing and repair operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 6+ years of relevant experience including 3+ years of experience in controls and Automation engineering with a proven track record of industrializing manufacturing, automation and machine learning technology.
- Ability and willingness to travel 10+% of the time.
Desired Characteristics
- Master’s degree in one of the following: Applied Data Science, Computational Analytics, Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or related field with a focus on demonstrated focus on industrial automation.
- Deep experience in PLC programming (e.g., Beckhoff/TwinCAT) and motion control.
- Advanced Python proficiency (Pandas, NumPy, CV2, ML/Deep Learning libraries).
- Experience with NX or SolidWorks for simulation, layout and reach studies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-site projects, deliver technical milestones, and lead engineering mentorship programs.
- Deep expertise in Gas Turbine/Turbomachinery manufacturing and repair processes, including experience with HGP/Combustion component inspection and coatings.
- Strong project management skills and ability to execute multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with strong rigorous, high-quality documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve with focus on RCA and Corrective actions.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
